Agreed. Only one of my factory overclocked cards still exist. I'll guess 6 OC cards but I can't remember for sure. On the other hand, I've accumulated piles of non-OC'd cards that can probably be thrown out as they're so old.
The theory running is that the card was originally designed for lower wattage. When word got out of the 6990s power consumption, nVidia had to scramble with the parts they had to try to make it compete. It was too late to order in new parts.
I doubt guerrilla marketing is needed. Just refer to the post above you. The board can't handle the power. That's why the newer drivers keep throttling the card further and further.
That would be a very interesting scenario. I wonder though, how it will perform if its being throttled at the higher power draws. If the card is being throttled by the drivers, OEMs might not be able to gain many advantages with custom designs.
Definitely an interesting scenario where AMD really didn't plan on being competitive this high up the ladder with the 6970, at least not a year ago.
I wonder if the products being this competitive will get those prices down to where I'm willing to pay for a higher end card. That would be nice.
I said thread (referring to the S/A thread which ended up in a tangent to holodecks). I thought your post was well stated. I'm guessing that you misunderstood my post.
I don't think that thread would be considered "sympathetic". It barely stays on topic for a page. I do think that APUs are going to make nVidia's future more difficult in the gaming arena. They seem to be shifting/balancing focuses towards SOC and professional divisions for good reason. With...
Took a while. I'm very busy at work. I looked at the UT3 defiance as you suggested in the same area. There is a big skylight window above. The scene changes with every single degree of movement. I can make the transitions visible or invisible. It just depends on which way the light is hitting...
I don't have TrackMania so I cant do comparisons myself between two cards otherwise I would.
So, do you really think that a change in resolution and screen ratio has no bearing on the results? I definitely see what you are demonstrating, I just have no means to make a comparison. I've seen...
Just gotta say that this is the most reasonable way of looking at this situation IMO. I'm definitely not interested in a clash of "who had the most supposed driver problems". However, threads where we help each other out with similar problems.... thats awesome.
Okay, I'm really not interested in the shots done from AFtester. It has its value but its still a synthetic test. Also, the different resolutions are creating a different screen ratio. Between resolution and ratio, I'd have to say that these shots can't be considered useful. I just went through...
Are there any screen shots where the pics are from identical scenes? Every picture I look at has different angles. It's really hard to make an accurate assumption without better sources.
If you haven't already done so, you really need to take care dust bunnies, as stated by Billb2 earlier. You'll need to open the case to your video card and get to the fins. I see this problem all the time.
