multimedia audio controller and other stuff

OK, as for the CPU usage, I have found what seems to be the problem. As this seems to be a common problem, I'm hoping someone will find this helpful. After watching the start up process, I realized explorer.exe was making it's jump to taking up 95+% of my CPU when the software for my HP...

multimedia audio controller and other stuff

Well, I got the sound working. That was such a simple solution, I'm embarassed to say what it was. I still can't account for the CPU usage though. I don't have any AVI files, don't have any graphic foo-foo on my desktop, no viruses and no RAID drives...yet explorer uses up 100% of the CPU...

multimedia audio controller and other stuff

Yeah, I've already disabled the onboard sound. According to the device manager the sound card is working great. I imagine there is a box that's unchecked somewhere. Just a matter of finding it. As far as the slowness goes, I'm finding that explorer.exe is using up 100% of my cpu resources...

multimedia audio controller and other stuff

After my power supply burned up, none of my periphreals worked, but I got those back up, no problems...except that my sound still won't work. In my device mananger, I see the multimedia audio controller is listed under OTHER DEVICES as an unknown device. I've reinstalled updated drivers for...

    What's it all mean?

My office is in 2 separate buildings. Currently we have one computer (desktop) on a dial up and the other (partner's laptop) on a wifi connection. Luckily for us, the building came set up. But we're thinking we may pick up a wireless card for the Desktop as well. His Dell has a **********...

    Hardrives driven to hard?

Phil, first of all, thanks for all the info. I don't overclock, too risky. and the voltage is where it's supposed to be. Those were the first things I checked. The heatsink isn't even warm. The HD, at one point, felt pretty warm, but not as hot as the temp was reading. Temp said it the...

    Hardrives driven to hard?

Interestingly, for S#!ts and giggles I hooked up my 120gb as a slave... and the thing works fine, although the 40 and the 80 are about as dead as can be. I'm setting up to build a new machine in a few weeks whe I get the parts, maybe I'll try and get a new case for this one as well.

    Hardrives driven to hard?

I don't know how to get it any cooler. I've got, 2 rear fans, 1 up front and the case is open with a 12 inch floor fan blowing into the case. All I can assume is there is a hardware screw up somewhere causing the temp to be so high. I'm buying a new machine in a month. I'm tired of screwing...

    Hardrives driven to hard?

22c?! I don'tt hink this thing has ever been under 45c I've been having some serious cooling issues for a while. My case is wide open with a table fan blowing into the case t keep it cool enough along with 3 case fans. I have a 400w PS I couldn't tell you the make or model. Think the PS...

    Hardrives driven to hard?

Dear Gents, Some time ago I was given a maxtor 40gig as a gift, after installation, it worked great for severl amonths as a slave drive until it just up and quit. Months later, the same friend gave me a WD 80 gig, short time later it died. I replaced it 3 months ago with a brand new...

    Chill out!

No, actually it shuts down at 160, but I've had alarms going off and overheat warnings come on just prior. I've never seen a machine run this hot before. What I don't get is how fast it heats up..I have an open case with a floor fan blowing into it and the system temp is still at 154f. Even at...

    Chill out!

I have a weird issue that may just be a bad mobo. at start up both the CPU and system therms shows a cold start up temp of 102 f. This of course causes a problem of the machine shutting down when it allegedly reaches 158f. (not taking any chances. Is there any way to adjust the thermostat...

    CHILL BABY!

That's what I'm not understanding. This thing has run fine for a year with out any cooling problems, then suddenly it dang near burst into flames. I've cleaned off all the fans, they weren't that dirty. I've got one exhaust on top (120mm) and another in the upper back(80mm), with an intake in...

    CHILL BABY!

Two days ago I suddenly noticed that my CPU and case are running at a constant 134F, about 57C. 17f degrees hotter than before. Prior to that the 80mm fan in my powersupply died with out my knowing it until I noticed it was acting funny and I checked the temp (Motherboard Monitor 5)...140F I...

    Reformatting

Thansk for the info, i actually found the info on an obscure knowledge base. It seems Win98Fdisk doesn't recognize HDD's past 67.7 gb, but will display only as 10 mb. You can either download the utility form Seagate or just type in the full size of the HDD.
