anyone on the west coast have luck with this? Checked BB in El Cajon and Mira Mesa(san diego) and no 9600se's with good serial numbers, checked behind all the boxes and all around for hidden ones too.

Any new ideas?

well with the few trial recovery tools I have tried there are a lot of files on each drive that don't seem recoverable.

Thanks for the linkage... I don't know about it either but I don't really have another machine that will read large sized drives... all the other machines I have are pretty old.

Well my second, smaller hard drive seemingly became accessible again by itself. However it only had about 14 gigs of good data, rest was garbled/corrupt and inaccessible large files/folders. Not sure what to make of all this. I added a new hd to the system to use for recovery and diagnostics...
