If it can handle over 137GB, it supports 48bit addressing. It can handle very large drives. ;) (I'm too lazy to do the math, but multi-TB at least)

It's 'magic' ! :D The cold causes the parts to contract a little bit, and for some reason this brings the drive back to life, but only for a short period of time. you need to pull all your data off it asap, then send it in for an RMA

the minus rails (-5V and -12V) are no longer used in modern systems, so it doesn't matter what voltage they are. ;)

yeah, unless the drive is very, very old, it should read rw just fine. Why don't you just get a pcmcia ethernet adapter for the laptop? Much easier than using cd's. For example, the first one on the list here...

No, not 100% Yes, it will keep programs and data intact, but only to a point. You have to be careful though, upgrading 98se -> xp is a messy upgrade. Some software doesn't port over well, and I know I had some issues with my network card. (I did an ME-> XP upgrade). Best to back your data...
