Want your Big Typhoon to run 2C cooler in 1 minute?

I don't think it is bad. I think it is great as is, but with plugging the gaps and lapping it is 3-4C better, which is awesome. I have been struggling to think of a reason - and nothing really comes to mind apart from allowing more cool air to the motherboard - but firstly, it has no...

Want your Big Typhoon to run 2C cooler in 1 minute?

RPM control is a wonderful thing. At 40% RPM - which is where it is set on most days, it is quieter than my hard drives. On hot days, it is at 70-100% RPM, which is less noise that the room fan cooling me ;-) It's not silent, but it is a great balance of power without insane noise at low RPM.

Thanks. Thats a lot of heat - what voltage? Is it stable at that temp?

Want your Big Typhoon to run 2C cooler in 1 minute?

Thanks! 1 or 2 degrees by themselves do not mean that much, I agree, but they do add up. I have about 10-12 in savings from airflow and mods. And remember I had a 9500 for a fews days, and wasn't impressed - Typhoon did 10C better in my case. I run an X2, and really need to keep it under...

Want your Big Typhoon to run 2C cooler in 1 minute?

I was keen on Thermalright - I was eyeing a SI-120 but the price here in Oz are shameful - double the Typhoon, and without a fan, so I gave the Typhoon a go and glad I did. Aussie for sure, but you don't wanna know more. As my wife says, a little bit of mystery is a good thing. :-P Suffice...

Want your Big Typhoon to run 2C cooler in 1 minute?

Ummm, ok. I didn't intend to come off as a TT basher - I have been recommending BT to anyone who will listen - as long as they don't mind the long list of irritations. Actually my poor opinion of Thermaltake was formed from personal experience - not this forum - like the poor design of the...

Want your Big Typhoon to run 2C cooler in 1 minute?

I dunno about you guys, but I am heading into summer here and want every degree extra I can find. Well, I just found the EASIEST saving ever. When you take the fan off the Big Typhoon, you notice two gaps and some wasted space at the corners. Air being what it is, will take the...

    DFI LanParty NF4 Ultra D

Nice opinion, but completely wrong. Having replaced a Zalman 7700 with a Zalman 9500 and then a Big Typhoon on a DFI Ultra-D - I gained 6 degrees, and with some attention to airflow nine degrees. In a case with a great side intake, but less good front to back airflow the Typhoon is miles...

Seriously considering a dfi lanparty nf4 ultra...

Ok, in that case, go for it. it is THE board to get for OC. My lesson learnt - when you first install you generally do a "load optimised defaults" in the BIOS. This worked OK - certainly fine for getting up and going, but I was finding my overclocks were good, but failing after 15-20 hours...

Seriously considering a dfi lanparty nf4 ultra...

It can be a bit daunting for a beginner, but on the plus side there is a great community at DFI-street.com that is very helpful. Post a signature with what you plan to build and they will give great advice. But it is a lot of info to absorb - like taking a drink from a firehose. The...

    AS5 application for X2

I have tried many combos with AS5 and found that a 5 point (like you see on a dice cube) works well for me. One grain in the middle and then one smaller dab halfway to each corner - 10-15mm from the middle. That way you get the best of both worlds - thin coverage, as well as greater total...

    Zalman CNPS9500 Base NOT Flat

The got a warped 9500 too! Just posted this of DFI-Street: Just reporting some results that might be useful to people looking at CPU coolers for their X2 / DFI Ultra-D. I went from a Zalman 7700-Cu to a defective Zalman 9500 to a Big Typhoon. Cut a long story short, the 9500 plate had a...

    "Official" DFI nF4 Ultra-D / SLI-DR Thread

I am running 4GB on 32bit Windows XP using the /3GB boot.ini switch. On the ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe 3.1GB is available to windows On the DFI-Lanparty UT Ultra-D it is 3.5GB! Having much better results with the DFI across the board, ASUS has several issues. Can't wait for 64 bit Windows to...

Can I swap motherboards without reinstalling Windows?

it was easy - the only tricky bit was I forgot to uninstall Asus Probe, and the driver crashed wndows explorer. Uninstalled and things went fine from there. Of course, I could try it without fear due to a Acronis True Image of my C: drive ;-)
