I can understand what you're saying about the mat, but the mat seems to be ok in mine. Instead it seems like the keys are rubbing too hard against the plastic they slide through.

If you care more about looks, go with Sony (or check out my BST thread for a more powerful Sony CR that's new and a cheaper). If you care about performance, go with the ASUS. If you are going to wait for the ASUS, you might find an even better deal on either one when the time comes.
