    CD burning: where's the bottleneck?

i defragged the drive and at 16x there was no difference in speed afterwards... i wonder, is all this 52x stuff just hype, because you can never in reality burn that fast?

    CD burning: where's the bottleneck?

burning an 80 minute disc from data, not audio disc copy, i max out at about 10x... at 8x there is a 10:43 write time (no background computer use in any of these trials), and at 12x it takes 9:08. (16x is even a bit slower, at 9:31) I'm using a recent version of Nero at 8x the buffer...

perhaps hard disk problem? help meeeeee!!!

well I seem to have lost multiple gigabytes worth of files, and I don't think I could trust a hard drive that does this to be reliable in the future. it's a western digital caviar special edition, with a 3 year warranty, so maybe they will replace it for me

PowerDVD 6 has changed icons for all my video files

maybe uninstall the prog, and reinstall looking for an option where you get to choose which file extensions are associated with the program, which it might have

perhaps hard disk problem? help meeeeee!!!

what would have caused this corruption in the OS if not a virus or a physical failure in the disk? here are some more details: when chkdsk runs on startup, it reports "file record segment 17xxxx is unreadable" several dozen times, then goes into "chkdsk is verifying indexes", at which point...
