Thanks for the input all, I forgot to mention im on a hyper 212+ cooler. I think im going to push this 2500k hard for now and maybe push the gpu too. and try to make it till fall for a big(ger) upgrade.

I havnt been following anything cpu related for a while. I have a 2500k rig that has served me pretty well.
2500k, mild o/c, cheap-o slow ram, samsung evo 250gb. asrock extreme 3 Mobo. gtx 760 2gb video card.
My upgrade budget is about 800-1200. just depends on where I wanna splurge...

It has a 0 overclock right now. I would like to see a very stable/safe 4.0-4.2 and I will openly admit i am a overclock newbie.

Im pretty conservative I upgrade very rarely so long term stability is also a concern. But I will jump up to a 40x multi for the next encode and see how im looking, thanks for the input guys.

I went into the bios and changed the multi from 33 to 38
I just started re-encoding a hd movie and my volts in cpuz are bouncing from
1.264 to 1.272 to 1.280
1.280 seems awful high to me? Its jumping between all...
raised the ratio, i was playing with some settings and it turned off during a test, then failed to boot, cleared the cmos and here i am
im gonna give it a rest for now i wanna enjoy it before i fry it lol
came from an e8400
so during intel burn test it goes up to 4ghz then drops down to like 3.3 3.6 and bounces around 3.3 3.6 4.0 back n forth under full load?
i set voltage to offset?
