1 ide controller, the cdroms normally connect to them. Ya can have a harddrive and 1 cdrom, harddrive would slow down to cdrom ata speed though.
other option would beadd a pci ide controller -that would use up a pci slot though.
It says it's a full version that is not just for Dell pc's. However dell has not been using microsoft cds since windows 98se. Dell makes their own operating system recovery cds that are bios locked and will only install on 'recent' Dell pc's.
So i have no idea what this "Dell OEM CD" is, buyer...
Dell doesn't put anything on there that would keep you from installing it on a different pc. To eliminate any software issue, I say Debug the drive. Debug script can be found here: http://support.dell.com/suppor...en&s=dhs&cs=19
Pata started getting used for ide drives after sata drives came out. I never heard of pata till then either. I personally think they just coined it aftwards so that sata would sound cooler and the name make sense :)
One word "Dremel".
Seriously though, The plastic tab prevents the lexmark ink from fitting. Removing tab allows lexmark ink to be used. Lexmark ink works prefectly fine on the dell printers.
Keep in mind however that removing the tab does technically 'void' your dell warranty.
