Yes, the heatsink will sort of work either way, but you will notice that there is really only one right way to attach it because it is off-center the other way. Look closely and you will discern which way is correct. Use the center mark on the polished surface to guide you.
Yes, I use Driver Cleaner, along with this:

This is a One Time process. After doing it, you can cancel out of windows...

These guys are awesome. I ordered heatsinks / fans on 2 separate occasions, and they shipped same day both times. Good prices as well. (FWIW, I got Thermalright SK7's with TT SFIIs and the free Arctic Alumina).
I agree. The Antec SLK3700AMB is a really nice case with a high quality PSU and excellent layout. I built my last system a month ago using this case. I think I got mine from Directron since they were cheaper than Newegg at the time, and shipping was less too.
KaranG4,
I think you may be down to one of two things:
1.) Find someone with an Athlon system where you can try one or more of your CPUs to ensure that they are working.
2.) Find a known good Athlon that you can put into your motherboard.
I would suggest that you first follow the suggestions...
An Abit KG7 would be a good choice here. With the later BIOS'es, it is rock solid stable, handles the RAM and CPU you spec, and can be found on eBay for less than $50 new in box. I use one of these in one of my systems, and it is a really good mobo.
KaranG4,
I just noticed this one - have you replaced this motherboard since you did this? The chipset fan you are talking about is most likely the Northbridge. IF you toasted this, the CPU would not be seen by the BIOS. Now, many Northbridges can be passively cooled, but your burning smell is...
KaranG4,
Reply #2. In the POST routine, the CPU is pretty much the first thing checked. So, if you are getting the CPU Failed message consistently, it is pretty useless to look at other causes. Basically, with a stripped down setup, any decent power supply gives you enough output to POST. Your...
KaranG4,
I never saw you post that you had correctly cleared the CMOS on the MBD. Look at page 2-16 in your manual. You will note that the correct way to do this is to use the Clear RTC Ram jumper, which I believe grounds a pin on the CMOS to clear it. I am not sure that simply removing the...
Well, you have a point there! :) Seriously, what I am really trying to do is get the best performance reasonably possible at the least amount of effort, since I have work to do! So, if the performance and stability gains make it worth fine tuning the configuration or upping the FSB or as a last...
Yeah, I know. In hindsight, I probably would have been money ahead to just get a T-bred 1700+. But, at any rate, I got the 2100+. I also have two sticks of Crucial PC2700 on the mentioned EPoX mobo. I am not an experienced O/Cer, so I am looking for some advise as to the best route to take with...
