Massive security hole in CPU's incoming?Official Meltdown/Spectre Discussion Thread

Rifter, Agree from preliminary results that heavy SSD/nvme/m.2 access seems to be taking a hit. Makes me wonder if the majority of YouTube tech reviewers that opted for the 7980X are going to put their two cents in, as most of that particular choice was made for their content creation machines...

Massive security hole in CPU's incoming?Official Meltdown/Spectre Discussion Thread

Hitman, am going with Moinmoin here. This is where I miss Ian, Anand, etc popping on the forums to hash things around and get inspired to write up a thorough article to clear matters.

bauerbrazil2014 and BigDaveX, How long ago did AMD incorporate the MMU into their silicon? From both the Phoronix and the register articles, the MMU doesn't seem to be affected. Bulldozer? Or since Zen?

Massive security hole in CPU's incoming?Official Meltdown/Spectre Discussion Thread

Thank you all for the link to Phoronix. Get me up to date numbers please, Linux based gaming is what? 0.5%- 2% of total gaming? Accessing a PubG game requires what? A server? Odds are an Intel server? So the 15-40% hit on real Linux servers was shown by that testing. Ok thanks, my point...

Massive security hole in CPU's incoming?Official Meltdown/Spectre Discussion Thread

The best overall description of the issues that will probably sink Intel below AMD's current market cap. https://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/01/02/intel_cpu_design_flaw/ There it is, ladies. 10 full years of Intel cpu's taking a minor to massive performance hit. Not one AMD CPU affected...

Bulldozer has better IPC when run 4C/4M?

Aigo is almost there. (Salud mi amigo) not about "normal sceduling" There aren't enough terms to describe Intels original doubling speed optimizations. They were done in thirds. Go figure. Intel would return to the unoriginal divide by four, drop one for overhead. Remember the original dx33...

Bulldozer has better IPC when run 4C/4M?

Hence the trashing of BD and JF. Forwarned was the different style of architecture, different meaning to phrase "core". Now everybody starting to figure it out piece at a time. Timely flashback: dual cores? Why?!? Just make the single core chip oc and you get more calc's per cycle than...

[OFFICIAL] Bulldozer Reviews Thread - AnandTech Review Posted

Looks like Guru3D came to similar conclusions from reading their stats. Telling was the games hitting on only 4 of the cores. Looks like its going to be another gap until optimizations are written that take advantage of the newer systems. Considering how long it has taken for programmers to...

[OFFICIAL] Bulldozer Reviews Thread - AnandTech Review Posted

Somehow, have been getting the distinct impression that reviewers under NDA have better drivers/bios updates than we realize. Would fit with the delay on shipments. Going to have to stay up now and check the different reviews and trusted opinions.

Anyone bought a new house lately?

Alkemyst, here in FL second homes are averaging around 20% down for most banks unless you have >780 credit(your nearly a bank in FL above 830 for reference). Being an investor ourselves, my wife and I knew where and how to look. 3 acre farm, 3 bed/2 bath, small garden house turning into...
