Linux Shell Code Standard I/O Concurrency/Exclusivity

Thanks for the reply, Markbnj. You're absolutely correct, standard I/O--/dev/stdout, /dev/stdin, and /dev/stderr are symbolic links to /proc/self/fd/N, where N is 0 for stdin, 1 for stdout, and 2 for stderr. /proc/self is a symbolic link to the current running process, which allows the process...

Linux Shell Code Standard I/O Concurrency/Exclusivity

I'm writing a web front end to a PKI system for our users. The web front end will generate a private key and certificate signing request(CSR) that will be uploaded to a Certificate Authority for signing. I'm using the PHP shell_exec command: $output = shell_exec("openssl req -nodes -newkey...

    weird aftermarket car stereo issue

Yup! Double check the wiring the other day, and will probably triple check it tomorrow. I'm thinking about just giving up and buy another head unit. I had a Sony five years ago and it worked well.

    weird aftermarket car stereo issue

The fader is at 00(F06-00-R06). I can balance using the fader, but it seems like all the bass are pumped to the rear speakers. The front sounds like cheap speakers with no bass, but the front and rear are the same speaker model. I think it's the head unit, but there is no setting that makes a...

    Odometer kinda broken.

from what I read online, it seems that the odometer information is not a generic OBD II parameter, so you will have to find the scan tool that works with your friend's Mazda Protege.

    weird aftermarket car stereo issue

Have some more time to look at it today and I've reached the same conclusion with most of you that JVC sends more power to the rear speakers--and more bass too. None of the settings matter and I checked all the connections--again. Oh well...too late to return it now since I bought it over two...

    weird aftermarket car stereo issue

hmmm...I'll try that. But what blows my mind is that the speaker wires came from the same spool. I'm going to re-crimp all the speaker connections too!

    weird aftermarket car stereo issue

So I finally decided to put the JVC KD-R200 head unit that I bought brand new two years ago into my '87 BMW 325e. I pair the head unit up with two pairs of Clarion SRG1621R 6.5" speakers. I ran new speaker wires into all four speakers--and they are from one spool(14 gauge). The issue that I'm...

hear knocking and grinding when in nuetral.

2.2 liter engine on what car? If you hear a growling noise without pushing in the clutch, then it's probable the input shaft bearing. Check you engine mounts and transmission mounts.

    old tire safety

it's manufactured in the 41st month of 2001. So I guess I'll get new tires before doing the suspension work.

    old tire safety

the tires on my '87 BMW 325e have many tiny cracks along the side walls so I'm guessing that they are old. They still hold air, though, and the threads are still good. I've heard somewhere that tires older than two years old are not safe, but I haven't found any concrete studies of this...

    What happened here? Head gasket?

hmmm....coolant in the oil is not good. After the car has cool, is there still pressure in the radiator? If so, your head gasket might be bad. I don't see why a bad intake manifold gasket would result in coolant being in the oil. Anyway, to be sure it's a bad head gasket, NAPA has this test...

Alternator power connection burned up again

So....you don't think these two are related somehow? I'm 99.999999% certain that you have a major short somewhere near the alternator output.

    Propane for your A/C

hmmm....interesting....I haven't heard of car exploding due to propane being used as a refrigerant, but I haven't heard of any car that use propane either. There are many sources of ignition in the car--especially old cars: switches(ignition switch, turn signal, wiper, fan, power windows, power...
