I built a new PC in May. (listed below)
I have XP and Mandrake installed. I 've never gotten past the CLI in Mandrake due to the ATI drivers not being loaded. I just found a couple more ideas to try and get the video drivers loaded.
What I would like to know is if I bought and...
Actually, until I screwed up w/ the WD tools the bios recognized it correctly. The Problem is installing WinXP . It only recognizes it as 137 w/o SP1. I'm trying to figure out how to correct the WD tools error making it appear now as a 33.8 gig HD and how to partition it the way I want it so...
I've put together a new system AMD64 3000+ with 512 megs of ram on an ASUS K8V deluxe MB with a 160 gig WD HD. I first installed XP w/o SP1 and could only see ~137 gigs of the HD using the included Dynamic Driver Overlay. Tried to use Partition Magic 8 to resize the two partitions to install...
I've just put a new system together with an AMD Athlon 64 3000+. I was wondering if there is a reasonably priced replacement for the OEM fan that would be quieter? Anyone know decibel rating for the OEM fan? I haven't been able to find that for comparison with replacement fans.
I've found a few sites that say their rounded ATA cables will work at ATA33 if you plug one hole. Problem is they don't explain how. I want an ATA33 rounded cable for my DVD Burner. Has anyone done this?
More info please. I've dual booted OS/2 and WinXX for years. When I tried to add Linux I was unsuccesful due to not knowing my way around Linux. I was afraid the Linux drive requirements would mess up my working system. Should I install Linux first on the new system I'll setup next week then...
Thanks for all the SATA info.
Funny you should ask. After posting the same inquiry in general computing I've decided to go with the AMD 64 3000+ on an Asus K8V Deluxe. Just picked up from Office Max a WD 120gig HD, 7200rpm and 8meg buffer for $50 after rebate and an 8X DVD burner for $70...
The raptor is out due to cost. Just picked up from Office Max a WD 120gig HD, 7200rpm and 8meg buffer for $50 after rebate and an 8X DVD burner for $70 after rebate. I'm going to go with the AMD 64 and t o complete my bargain system (~$835 total) I'm going w/ ATI ALL-IN-WONDER RADEON 9600...
Thanks for the award, I've worked very hard for the honor! The benefits of running OS/2. Thats why I'm looking into upgrading it and getting into Linux while using WinXP for any mainstream items that I can't find support for elsewhere.

OK, I'm going with the 64 3000+. Since I haven't...
Originally posted in Techincal then I thought maybe I should post here. I've been reading up on the new chipss and memory but ZI have found enough info on SATA yet.

After all these years I'm looking to build a new system. I'm currently running OS/2 and Win98 on a PPro1800 w/ 125 megs ram CDRW and 2 SCSI and 1 IDE HD totaling over 4 gigs of HD space. Since my wife gave me a 19 Viewsonic flatpanel for X'mas I decided it's time for a new system. I 'm...
I received mine from Amazon about 3 weeks ago and it is the LiteOn w/ burn proof. :D Must depend on what they receive from their supplier as to which drive they send out.
