I think the idea is not to turn your head side-to-side but rather to keep your focus forward as you would with a single-monitor setup and allow your peripheral vision to work in conjunction with the side monitors.

The restrictions and compatibility list are certainly disappointing. I'm sure things will improve with driver revisions, but it's hard to get excited about the Hydra as things currently stand.

6 GB is the sweet spot that I'm shooting for. For my uses, I think 8 GB would be overkill. I'll stick to an affordable 6 GB kit, but if I were buying into the p55 platform I would be all over this RAM.

I really wish this came in a 6 GB kit version, especially now that I've decided to go x58 over p55. Those results of the x58 look awesome, but I'm not buying two 4 GB kits and wasting one DIMM.

So I guess the consensus is to ditch the high-cost p55 boards and migrate over to x58 once mobo price begins to overlap. I'm a little surprised that no one spoke up in favor of the top-of-the-line p55 boards. Still, this isn't necessarily unwelcome advice for me. Based on my intended usage...

Ugh, I just realized I missed the part of the OP's post where he said the cans must be cups. Forget my suggestion of the ATH-AD700, then. Those Sennheiser's being recommended are a good choice. Another option may be the new Shure models; the SRH440 ($77) and the SRH840 ($146).
