I wanted to post an update about the situation and my resulting success.
First, the problematic unit has been returned to the retailer under their 30 day warranty. There was far too much work involved in digging through to find the cmos battery for a hard reset, etc. The retailer was...
I would have, but the design of this laptop makes the battery inaccessible. Ie. No battery removal. I did many searches to find if this was the case - no results reflect the contrary. :(
Thanks for all the replies Razel. I didn't lose any data - the ssd was brand new, and the OEM HDD and the laptop were also brand new (< 30 days owned). I just can't comprehend what could have gone wrong from my procedure. This is what I did:
1. Shut down, unplug laptop.
2. Wait some time...
I performed the HDD and SSD tests on a desktop last night - both were detected and useable by the desktop. There is something very wrong with the BIOS or the motherboard on the laptop. My guess is it no longer knows to direct power to fire up the HDD or SSD. I will be sending the laptop back for...
Would it be a bad idea to try both hard drives in a desktop? Just at least to see that my desktop mobo can detect said drives. Are HDD controllers prone to getting fried? Even in the boot order settings, both the HDD and SSD don't show up.
Thanks for the tips Razel. I'll try testing the drives in a different comp tonight. Is there a way to hard-reset the BIOS? I tried resetting to default, but it didn't do anything. Both the HDD and SSD are undetected.
Could the BIOS power settings have gotten confused because I swapped in 2 new...
I just installed a brand new Crucial SSD into a brand new Acer TimelineX 3830T. Everything was working perfectly on the original OEM HDD, but after installing, the HDD is not detected in BIOS and at boot. Anyone have any idea about what could have happened? I double checked the connections. When...
It still hangs on "Shutting Down..." screen. Don't know if it's an explorer crash or something. Explorer is also crashing when I right click "Computer" under start menu. I disabled Nvidia context menu entry since it was a common crash causer for others.
Any idea why it hangs?
I need pointers for diagnosing this strangeness.
Symptoms:
Gets stuck on shutdown, either on the "Shutting down..." screen on windows 7.
Occasionally gets stuck on a no-signal screen, seems to not shut down the PSU.
Gets stuck on bootup, or boots up really slowly once an OS is selected...
Be careful here. I just looked up dimensions for my Antec Sonata II, which fits an XFX GTX 260 BE (c216). It fits it, but with only about 2 centimeters of room before hitting the drive rack.
Sonata II (D) : 18.25"
Sonata Elite (D) : 17.3"
Just a heads up. Not saying it will/will not fit...
Weird....we narrowed it down to something involving CPU connection though. Sounds like this isn't an isolated case then. Thanks for the replies!
Working with fellow member on RMA as we speak..
Update:
tried clearing CMOS, turns out that is not the problem.
After cutting power to certain areas of the board, we've come to the conclusion that it does this strange cycling when the CPU receives power. When we cut power for the CPU, the mobo stays on.
FYI, we did find two bent pins...
Requesting assistance in troubleshooting a said previously working board I just received from a member here on the forums.
The Board: Gigabyte EP45 UD3LR

The others:
Brand new E7500
Brand new OCZ Vendetta CPU cooling
Brand new OCZ...
oh how lame. It works now after I went into the bios. Apparantly, the Parallel Port had been DISABLED. I re-enabled that, and now it works.
Makes me wonder...why does JUno do this kinda crap? It even made me install some Promise Fastrack controller thing. Some kinda "update" that was on...
LiLithTecH: Yes! that's the printer. I'm using Windows XP with SP2. I don't know why i'm not using USB...i guess it was cheaper back then to use parallel port. It never had problems before...
Steaksauce: I'll check the BIOS again...and i can't delete it off my tray, else I get disconnected. I...
