Problems Sharing Files Between Vista & OS X Leopard

I get the same error message if I use the IP address, but '\\RIEMANN' is replaced by '\\192.168.1.3'. File and Print Sharing is checked in Windows Firewall. Also, I don't know if this matters or not, but for the Windows machine to "see" the MacBook at all, I had to add my router as a WINS...

Problems Sharing Files Between Vista & OS X Leopard

Hi. I'm running into problems sharing files between my Vista desktop and my MacBook. In particular, I want to use files on my MacBook from Vista. I have file sharing turned on on both computers, with the Mac set to use SMB. From the Windows box, if I go to Network from the Start button, I...

    New Machine Won't Boot

I pulled everything out and turns out the problem was exactly what wanderer27 had said: the 4-pin 12v connector wasn't plugged in. Now the machine is booting and I've even gone ahead and put Vista on it and installed the drivers for the wifi from the p5k's disc, but it's not finding my wireless...

    New Machine Won't Boot

Hi. I just got parts for a new PC, put the machine together, plugged it in, the little power light on the motherboard came on, hit the power button, all the lights on the video card, little LEDs in the power supply, etc., came on, the fans were spinning, but there's no video signal coming out...

    Netgear WG311 - Can't connect to 802.11b home network?

I just put a new box together yesterday, with a Netgear WG311 as the wireless NIC. I have an 802.11b Linksys router for sharing my Internet connection with the computers in the house. Basically, the little "Wireless Connection Available" thing pops up in Windows, and shows my SSID. I check the...

Permission denied on all of my code (in Linux)

Yeah, that's what it was. My /home was mounted noexec, fixed that and it works now. Thanks.

Permission denied on all of my code (in Linux)

Hey, on all of the code I've compiled in the last day or so I get 'permission denied' when I try to run it.. Here's an example: cjohnson@gondor:~$ cat test.c #include <stdio.h> int main() { printf("Blah\n");; return 0; } cjohnson@gondor:~$ gcc test.c -o test cjohnson@gondor:~$ ls -lh test...

    -1 in binary?

It depends on the representation used. There are three representations (that I know of): signed magnitude, one's complement and two's complement. Two's complement is probably the most common and goes like this: Take the positive of the number you want to represent in binary as a negative (e.g...

Good programming books? (C/C++, Java, VB6.0/.NET, etc. Graphics, too)

If you already know C (or, really, a language with similar syntax, such as Java) O'Reilly's C++: The Core Language is good. It's a pretty small book and an easy read, and covers the core of the language (hence the name), but doesn't even touch some topics. But I think it's a good introductory book.

    My Two Cents

You obviously missed my point. I never said this guy shouldn't be celebrated/respected, but to have a friggin' parade for just one individual, when so many more are still Iraq risking their lives, seems pointless to me. How much money and time did it cost to put something like this together...

    My Two Cents

I don't recall saying anything about anyone spitting on anyone else. My point is that all this hoopla is going on for this one guy with a broken foot, while at the same time plenty more people (on both sides) are over there getting killed and getting injured much worse than that, and there's...

No. Do you have a point?

    My Two Cents

I figured I'd just say this: 1) The anti-French sentiment in this nation is flat out stupid. France doesn't jump up and down like our trained monkey so we call French fries "freedom fries"... Yeah, that makes lots of sense. 2) People die in war, I know that, but people who just sort of shrug...

    SQL Questions

The general form of an SQL statement is SELECT columnsYouWant FROM tablesToGetColumnsFrom WHERE conditions (there are also GROUP BY and HAVING clauses). If you want to compare some the elements of some column to a string literal you do it like columnName='Blah', for example SELECT age FROM...

    Frequencies on wires

I saw another thread about frequencies earlier today and it reminded me of a question I've had for a while. How/why do wires have frequencies? Like when people talk about DSL they talk about how the voice and data are on different frequencies... same thing for cable. Thanks.
