i have the same thing with my 9400. Core 4 idles at a higher temperature, and then under load core 1 is always the highest. I don't really think it's anything to worry about.

the vaio has a 12" screen and no built-in cd drive. the powerbook has a 15.2" screen, a slot-loading DVD drive, wirleless networking without an antenna sticking out of the side of the case, and is still thinner than the vaio.

BTW a 16G would generally increase lag, not decrease it. It is a larger turbo, which means it takes more time to spool up.
