Best 2 TB drive around $80 for ZFS? (not-4k sector size)

http://www.hitachigst.com/internal-drives/desktop/deskstar/deskstar-7k3000 click on specifications, sectors size - 512. (Most of the new advanced format drives are listed as 512e (emulated) - for instance: http://www.hitachigst.com/internal-drives/mobile/travelstar/travelstar-z5k500...

Best 2 TB drive around $80 for ZFS? (not-4k sector size)

Does your zpool available space display correctly? I had read some issues with people using the ashift12 pools having incorrect available space reports.

Best 2 TB drive around $80 for ZFS? (not-4k sector size)

The issues is that the drives report as 512 byte drives - not an inherent 4k issue, but because the drives are 4k internally and 512bytes externally ("512e") you get into boundary cases where you pay a penalty for the emulation. When a manufacturer releases a 4k drive which reports 4k sector...

Really flexible storage array for multiple systems?

There are issues getting iSCSI targets to work with DE in WHS 2003 specifically (even as data disks). They work in vail. You might have to go to a HBA level interface - fiber channel or an iSCSI HBA (broadcom, etc) - that would present the drives locally and probably work. Otherwise WHS in...

Looking for a cheap sata hardware raid 1 controller (PCI-E)

Actually per: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=94679 it looks like it should work in either mode - if you go to http://www.lsi.com/storage_home/products_home/standard_product_ics/sas_ics/lsisas1068e/index.html#archivedEFI then click on "support and download" select the...

Looking for a cheap sata hardware raid 1 controller (PCI-E)

In IT mode will OS X not boot off of it? You may have issues in IR mode with OS X (i'm not sure, win 7 & solaris have drivers built in for it so didn't have to mess with that in either case) - but I would think it should work fine in IT mode (probably means no raid-0/1/10 if that's what you...

Looking for a cheap sata hardware raid 1 controller (PCI-E)

For Raid 1 I don't think the TLER/Whatever (or head parking on the greens, etc.) is much of an issue - it's just when you get the stripes across multiple drives since controllers tend to be quick to drop disks out of the array.

    Good RAID5 hardware card?

Raid 10 with one of those cards will probably be your most performant for the buck solution. Actually SSD's are the best bet if you can get enough disk space, but barring that a raid 10 disk setup. For backups, IMO, image to a NAS & store what you can in an online service (crashplan, etc)...

Looking for a cheap sata hardware raid 1 controller (PCI-E)

Honestly I used eBay for lots of cabling stuff http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_trkparms=65%253A12%257C66%253A2%257C39%253A1%257C72%253A4726&rt=nc&_nkw=8087+breakout&_sticky=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_sop=15&_sc=1 just make sure you get a "Forward" direction (means the SFF-8087 is the host side...

Looking for a cheap sata hardware raid 1 controller (PCI-E)

NP - Found the link from someone else on [H] Forums. Most people pick those up for ZFS servers as they are pretty much rock solid and well supported. As was mentioned, caveats are max HD size of 2TB and 3Gbps interface, and it doesn't come with a bracket to mount to the back of the case (min...

Looking for a cheap sata hardware raid 1 controller (PCI-E)

https://www.glcomp.com/Products/44E8689-IBM-System-X-ServeRAID-BR10i-SAS-SATA-Controller.aspx 25 Bucks. Another 10 for a forward breakout cable to give you 4 Sata/SAS ports. (total of 8 ports if you want). It's just an OEM LSI SAS 3081E-R (most people even flash it with the LSI firmware)...

    Intel G3 ( 320 ) SSD already available.

Yeah, it depends on pricing. If these come it at 50% the price of the G2 (say 100 bucks for a 80 gig), then that changes things significantly. For instance this would let you get a 320Gig raid-0 stripe of 4 80's for 400 bucks, which is cheaper than the 256Gig other SSD's, and will probably...
