    Question TeamViewer - How Secure?

Some years ago, someone hacked my TeamViewer account, and accessed my PC. I abandoned it after that.

Question Installing legacy software onto W7 or W10...

Now you are starting to talk French... ;) ...I'm not a software/program guy. But... I'll give it a whirl. Because I have it installed on this machine, I can look and see where everything is for a working install.

Question Installing legacy software onto W7 or W10...

I know my current build (W10) is 64-bit... and it loaded somehow, and runs fine. I may have copied the files manually, however... it's been a few years since I did it. I'll have to give it a try... I didn't know if there was some magical way of getting the installer to run, and was confused...

Question Installing legacy software onto W7 or W10...

So... my MIL has a very old (2002 last copywrite date) Video Poker training CD that we are trying to install on an older PC (that I built in 2015) running W7. It's currently on a 18 year old Acer (running Vista) that I just had to fix, yet again, and I'm doubtful this thing is going to last...

Question *Solved!* Looking for an audio converter to reformat M4a, to WAV or MP3

Actually... that was my answer. It took me a bit to sleuth it out, but it works quite well.

Question *Solved!* Looking for an audio converter to reformat M4a, to WAV or MP3

I have a bunch of audio recordings that I need to clean up and restructure, using Audacity. Unfortunately, I created some of them in M4a, for Apple, and Audacity can't open them for edit... I need to convert them to a WAV or MP3 file, first. Is there a free, or open-source, converter... that...

Question Hard drive for local back ups

I've got a WD Red 4TB drive that I've had as a storage drive in my HTPC for some years... never a problem... sort of. The original 3TB Red was DOA, and they shipped me a 4TB Red as a replacement. What's wrong with Toshiba drives? My other HTPC drive is a 6TB Toshiba... besides running a...

Question SATA SSD for data storage

All of my builds have a 2nd SSD as a storage drive, usually the retired OS SSD from that or another build, so it's not a huge SSD. In any event, I still have at least 1 HDD for long-term backup, and multiple portable USB HDD's for backup as well. I have had an SSD fail... and the only thing...

    Question SSD Reallocated Sector Count

The only SSD I've ever had fail outright was a Samsung 840Pro, flat stopped working one night after about 6 months of use. I got a refurb SSD back from RMA... so I wasn't a very happy customer.

Question Gigabyte motherboard, are they really durable or reliable?

That is the same board I'm still running, with my 2500K. It was my primary game/desktop board until 2020, I think, then I moved to to my wife's computer, to replace the incredibly solid Gigabyte B75M-D3H/i3 Sandy combo. GB's older BIOS was not very polished, their newer versions are pretty...

Question Debating on upgrading my older Z68 gamer

Quite true... although I've noticed on more modern SSD's it's not quite the penalty the old ones used to be... ;) ...but 80% is 80%

Question what's a reliable ext hdd dock?

I've had a Xigmatek dock for a few years... it's fantastic. Granted, it's only a single. For that matter, I don't see anyone selling them... so it may be a moot point. :(

Question Debating on upgrading my older Z68 gamer

I actually run the free MWB utility, and SAS Pro, regularly. I also check my disks every few days with CrystalDiskInfo to monitor my old spinners, and I have that and the WD utility to monitor the main OS SSD. I use 1 internal and 2 portable external spinners for storage, but they aren't...

Question Debating on upgrading my older Z68 gamer

All CPU Meter by addgadgets. It used to come in Windows widgets, but they now consider it a security vulnerability. I like it... a LOT.

Question Debating on upgrading my older Z68 gamer

No... just an i3-10100... it was a very budget build. Gigabyte B560m board and an SN770 M.2, with W10. Very clean, very fast.
