Will be using 3d Studio Max for the rendering. On top of that it's just Adobe products such as Photoshop, Premiere, and After Effects.
I like your idea with the hard drives, but to me data is the most important part of the machine. I don't want to worry about saving 30 dollars and being a bit...
I will not be overclocking. Apart from the core parts mentioned, I'm going for a 650 Watt Corsair Power supply and will be running two HDs (one Raptor and one 650GB). Other than some USB peripherals and a 24inch screen, nothing more.
Looking at those ASUS MBs, seems many of them are within $30...
Hey everyone,
I'm building a new system. Getting the i7 860 and going for 8GB of DDR3 2000 RAM. Will be getting a GTX 465 so I'm not interested in SLI. What motherboards would you recommend for this core setup? I've always been buying ASUS and will probably stick to them.
Thank you.
Thanks for the posts guys and you cleared some things up for me. One thing I noticed though is the difference in cache on the 930. We have 4 x 256K L2 cache on the 930 while the 860 has none in L2. I am not planning on OCing, but I've always noticed huge differences in the past with more cache...
Hey everyone,
Building a new system and am trying to decide whether to go the the 1156 or 1366 route. Processor and RAM costs are pretty much the same for both, so I'm only looking now at saving on the cost of the motherboard. Other than the dual-channel vs triple-channel difference, is there...
Guys thank you for the replies. I agree on trying the PS/2 solution however I went on newegg to buy one and look at the reviews!

Apparently people with Dell XPS machines are having this same problem and when they plugged this PCI card...
So I went to someone's home to fix their computer because their mouse and keyboard weren't working. I thought this was going to be easy. I first bootup the computer and it goes into windows and sure enough the keyboard and mouse do not work at all. I have to force shutdown.
It's a USB...
I want to start with Windows 7 but I'm nervous about downloading the pre-release version from Microsoft's website. If something goes wrong it puts all my data in jeopardy. That is the reason I was thinking of starting with XP until 7 came out.
You guys said universities or other places might...
Building a new i7 machine this week. I was wondering what OS I should put on there.
I was thinking of putting XP on until Windows 7 comes out in October, but I don't like not using my new 64-bit processor or the memory to its full potential. However, that's not a big deal, if XP is the safest...
So if I'm not using RAID or SLI there's not point to get the deluxe correct? Just stick with the P6T SE? Anything about the deluxe like better cooling or power efficiency that would make it worth my money?
Comparing these 3 ASUS boards and I'm going crazy figuring out what I'm paying almost $100 for when going from the SE to the Deluxe. I understand things such as 1 to 2 RAID and LAN controllers and some have more external ports than others, but what core differences make these boards stand apart...
Difficult for me to see the difference two, let me list the prices:
ASUS P6T LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - $250
ASUS P6T SE LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - $209
Newegg actually uses the same picture for both boards so there has to be something different internally...
