Conroe users, don't worry about high temperatures

If you touch your sink and it is not really hot, chances are that your CPU is at 85C or even higher. ;) Reason: The IHS does not make proper contact, and the the heat is not absorbed by the sink.

    Pentium D equivalent of X2 3800+ ?

No. I have compared a 920@4066 (aircooled and 24/7 stable) with a 3800+@2510 Mhz in 7 different applications and benchmarks (DVD Shrink, LAME, Cinebench, Photoshop, Business Winstone, PCMark 2005, WinRAR) 4 different games (FEAR, CoD, Quake, Battlefield). The 920 was in almost all of them...

    Pentium D equivalent of X2 3800+ ?

The 920 is roughly equivalent in productivity apps with a 3800+, but slower in gaming. But using a high end-card and running games in 1280x1024 or higher I can't find a noticable difference. The 920 overclocks far better and cost less than a 3800+.

Aircooled Prescott 2.8@3.91 on Max 3

Max 3 Prescott 2.8E@3.91 Aircooled with Max3 Radeon 9800XT 4 x WD740 in RAID 0 2 x 512 MB ADATA DDR 500 Prescott is very well responding to additional voltage, very nice scaling. This is a good start, if the first production processors are already so good and easy to oc, it can only become...

PJ's Prescott: 2.8E on the DFI LanParty 875B

is not just the foremost site for overclocking. And we all remember when they posted faked/bogus benchmarks in one of their P4 reviews. Several reviews sites could run Prescott on a P4P800, ASUS has validated the P4P800 for Prescott. The only possible conlcusion is that had (a) a bad P4P800...

    EPOX 4T4AU - Alternative to P4T533

I have used the Epox 4T4AU for a couple of weeks. The problems are even worse than with the P4T533. I took me one day alone until I found a way to install Windows XP. I always go BSOD until I found out that the RAM setting has to be changed from AUTO to 3x. Maybe it's all not a matter of the...

    9700 name brand, any different?

After trying (for sales) more than 25 9700 Pro samples since August 2002 from ATI original, ATI OEM, Gigabyte, Sapphire, to Creative, I can tell you there is ABSOLUTELY no difference. All these crads use the same components, the same rated Samsung RAM and follow the reference design. it's pure...

SiS 655 *2-18-03 UPDATE* MSI, Gigabyte and ASUS Done

Nice review, good write! And it makes me keep my E7205 board. This below quote is a knock-out for anybody interested in hardware and overclocking. Every Northwood I have tested so far needs at least 0.2 on top to exploit full Mhz headroom. My 3.06 is yielding 3500 Mhz at 1.6, but goes up to...

    The Granite Bay Wars: Asus P4G8X v. Gigabyte GA-8INXP v. Tyan S2662 v. AOpen AX4R Plus v. MSI GNB Max-FISR (MS-6565)

Absolutely yes, ocworkbench had an interview with ABIT where they explained why: the much better Sprigdale chipset is around the corner and Intel has qulity/quantity problems with the E77205 chipset. The smaller makers like ABIT don't get enough chipsets to warrant a production, they said.

    Granite Bay in Japan?

because it's not cheaper, a little slower than dual channel, and overclocks less :) if you take a 32-bit RIMM 4200 system (Asus or Epox) you save the $$ for the second module, but I think you are aware about the problems with this RAM.

    Granite Bay in Japan?

What you say is not exactly correct :) for PC hardware. (I am living since 20 years in Japan and reviewing hardware here since many years): at the current exchange rate of 1 USD = 120 Yen electronic articles are up to 20% cheaper in Japan than in US, because the competition is much higher here...

    Geil vs. Mushkin vs. ???

I don't understand the excitment about Geil and Mushkin, both are not producing any RAM. They buy the modules and plugg them into PCB, that's all. And only the RAM modules determine the quality. Mushkin is using (not sure) DDR 400 from Winbond with the BH 5 ns modules. These are the best...
