i recently purchased an amd athlon 64 3800+ x2 dual core cpu. anyone have experiences on a quiet hsf? i noticed that some hsf say socket 939 compatible but it states that its for semprons or athlon 64 or opteron only, will those work?

i already did that but the problem is, i have to do the alsamixer adjustments again after i turn the PC on.

i have sound on fc3 although the problem is that 'alsactl store' /etc/asound.state is not used when i reboot my PC. i have to manually turn the values up again. any ideas on how to set the the asound.state on restart?

Is there a good way to check if this motherboard is okay or not? I installed Mandrake 10 on this combo and everytime i use gftp, it keeps locking up. Browsing with Mozilla seems to be just fine. (CPU isnt burning up because WinXP apps work just fine)

It's amazing how the arctic silver ceramique lowered my temps. I also stuffed 1 more case fan(blowing out). I got it down to 51C idle and 55C-60C full load. Thanks for all the help you guys!

ok, cpu got toasted... :( i just got a new one. it seems that cpu/hsf contact wasn't good. Idle temp is now 55C and 68C when cranking.

Doh, I must have overlooked the temps in the Bios, it is 92C on speedfan(just got this cool tool). Does this mean that the HSF is bad?

Whew, I thought that my HSF isn't doing its job. So what is the maximum temperature do I need to look out for? I don't wan't to burn out my new CPU too early.

I just installed a Thermaltake SLIM VOLCANO 8 SE HSF on my CPU. I played C&C generals(maxed out all options) for 30 minutes and noticed that my CPU was at 92C. Is this normal? I have not seen my CPU temp go this high...

how good are the maxtor rebates? i never got my rebate from a 60GB deal. i tracked the rebate and it stated that it was approved but they never sent it.

I graduated in 06/2002 with a BS in CS and I can't find a job. I have applied jobs through various job boards and newspaper ads and I never had results. I had 2 on-campus interviews and that was it. Are there any other ways to find a job?
