Problem solved!!.. Thanks everyone who has posted their thoughts on help. The culprit was a bad cable that ran from IDE to M/B. Not sure how it got busted exactly the same moment I opened the case and cleaned up. But replacing the cable solved the problem. All components are working great now...
In the process of updating the BIOS which needed a floppy drive turned out to be a nightmare. My computer doesnt go past the ASUS LOGO SCREEN when started with floppy drive installed. plz look at my other message in the motherboard forum. u can find it by searching on the author name (bubloosolid)
