    Please review my HTPC/network scheme

I have been busy doing mind-numbing stuff like spec-ing all the windows and choosing carpet, paint, fixtures, light switch locations... ugh. Anyway, the plan is to run cat6 + coax lines to every bedroom and the new loft/workout room. I was wondering about something but am not sure it will...

    Please review my HTPC/network scheme

LowTech - I was waiting for someone to ask why I have coax running from the OTA antenna directly to the 2 TV's. I am planning this for those times when we just want to turn on the TV and watch a live show without any HTPC hassle. It also makes it baby-sitter friendly etc. This plan is also in...

    Please review my HTPC/network scheme

Zorba - Thanks for the feedback on the schematic. We have always just had a simple wi-fi setup that just won't cut it for HTPC use. We have fiddled with powerline adaptors a bit but this has been only somewhat successful. Aikouka - I have not actually hooked up my HDHR3 yet, but it does get...

    Please review my HTPC/network scheme

Thanks Zorba, I will know exactly since this will be new framing and new windows. How about my network overall schematic? I would like to feel confident in it before we start stringing cable and buying hardware.

    Please review my HTPC/network scheme

It should interesting as my bedroom tv will be wall-mounted on an outside wall that is mostly windows. I plan on hanging it at the 'intersection' of 4 large picture windows. Hopefully I can run some conduit thru the narrow wall portions separating these windows. That way the TV will just be...

    Please review my HTPC/network scheme

Thx for the replies so far. So overall the schematic seems like it would work? I like the conduit idea for future-proofing. I will be asking the contractors how doable it is to install such.

    Post your HTPC builds!

This is my very first HTPC build (also 1st PC build of any sort). The goal is DVR'ing OTA broadcasts, streaming Netflix/Hulu/etc., storing some ripped dvd movies, and some home movie editing/storage/viewing. I am using Assassin's HTPC guides to get everything working smoothly. So far, I have the...

    Please review my HTPC/network scheme

We are doing a home remodel project and i am planning on having cat6 and coax pulled during this mess. I would appreciate any feedback to the basic schematic i have worked up. This is my first foray into HTPC's and ethernet networks. The HTPC is actually built and running...thanks to Assassin's...

Recommend a TV tuner for my HTPC

I too am going to use the HD Homerun for my OTA into my HTPC (which is at this stage a pile of parts on my workbench). I went with it because it seemed more flexible to use on a network and I am trying to keep my HTPC case size and power requirements to a minimum.

Home remodel - what cable to run?

I like the conduit idea for possible future pulls of whatever needs to be pulled, but I don't think this remodel will allow such a large component to fully installed thoughout the entire house. Maybe I will look at this for just the areas where the drywall will be ripped out etc.

Home remodel - what cable to run?

Thanks all...I just did not want to regret something due to my ignorance of some pending networking technology. Cat6a will be the spec.

Home remodel - what cable to run?

Yeah, but it seems Cat 6 is becoming pretty standard so it costs just a tad more - not enough to quibble over. I was curious about stuff like fiber optics etc.

Home remodel - what cable to run?

We are embarking on a home remodel project and i was planning on having cat6 cable strung to a few key rooms with the goal of a future wired network for HTPC and general PC use. I am curious if anyone more knowledgeable than I recommends that we also run some other type cable while the house is...

New HTPC build for a nooby

Thanks mfenn! I was a bit concerned about the included PSU and am happy to purchase a better, more efficient one for this build. Are they pretty much a drop-in / plug and play deal, or might I run into minor details to work thru when installing? I like the whole modular PSU idea, but don't...

New HTPC build for a nooby

Good to know. It is frustrating to be missing these minor but critical components when it is time to put something together. So as I anxiously await the arrival of the following stuff, I welcome any comments on my very first PC build. How am I doing so far?? My HTPC CPU - i3-2125 Mobo -...
