What is the current sweet spot for a CPU?

Sorry for the delay on my response. His budget? That he doesn't seem to know or I would have shared it already. I put together a build that hit $800 & he kina blanched at that, so I replaced the SSD with a spinner, cut the RAM from 16 to 8 gig & got it to below $700. He wants to play...

What is the current sweet spot for a CPU?

YES! Sounds like we got a winner right there. Thanks! & thanks everyone for your input, seriously, this forum is the best tech forum around. Once we decide on the build, I will post it here. 4690k sounds right though.

What is the current sweet spot for a CPU?

Yes, it's for gaming. No way for AMD eh? That just makes me sad. They fell a long way since the XP chips, CPU of the year & my overclocked Opteron. So the FX-8320 is just too slow you think?

What is the current sweet spot for a CPU?

What is the current sweet spot for a CPU, value/performance? I'm helping one of my son's friends build a rig & yes, I am lazy/short-of-time, & I've not been following the latest hardware. My rig still runs great with a 2600k at 4Ghz so I avoid the hardware forums so I don't catch "upgrade...

    GA-Z68XP-UD3 USB 3.0 no go

Thanks guys, that of course did the trick. Not sure how I missed it as I downloaded everything Gigabyte had under drivers for my board. I browsed the CD after installing the linked drivers & I did find (an older version) them but the CD GUI did not offer to install them & it was not in the...

    GA-Z68XP-UD3 USB 3.0 no go

Likely something I missed. My Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3 's USB 3.0 sockets (the one's integrated with the MB) are not working. After I completed the Win7 64 Pro load, drivers from Gigbyte's web site, I checked the device manager & saw a couple USB devices not loaded (no drivers). So tried a few...

    [Retired] The LCD Thread

Thanks Xknight for your input. The Vizio & the Asus are about the same price, so I am torn. Sooner or later I will pull the trigger one something, when I do I will be sure to add my input on this thread. regards, Joe S.

    [Retired] The LCD Thread

After lurking here for.. years?... I am getting close to replacing at least one of our 21" CRTs. My wife's is taking quite some time to warm up so I believe it's going. Problem is I hesitate to mail order, although I am a good customer of Newegg & Newegg has always been good to me, but the...

    Audio problem

Holy smokes this forum rocks! Guess I didn't read that manual was well as I claimed. That is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks everyone. Even a link to the PDF version of the manual. =)

    Audio problem

I'm sure this problem has been covered before & I did search with no luck. For many years my wife & I have struggled with a audio problem. When watching TV or movie, mostly movies, to hear the dialogue clearly, we had to turn up the volume to a level unacceptable. At least unacceptable...

    CPU upgrade!

Is the only difference bettween a P4a & a P4b the bus speed? I mean, are there any P4a's running at 533Mgz? This motherboard with a BIOS flashed to the A9 version (9 BIOS updates? From Dell?!) is able to POST with the 533Mgz. So it can at least run the bus at 533. The guy I bought the...

    CPU upgrade!

Wow, go outa town for a couple days & look at all the great replies! Let me take them one at a time. Yes, I suppose it could be the fact that HT is not supported & that is somehow causing the CPU to peg out at 100%. Yes I suppose it could be heat, but I wouldn't know for sure, no...

    CPU upgrade!

OK will try one of them in the morning. I am familiar with them, just haven't used either in years due to the utilities that MB makers provide these days. You think mbm5 or everest will work with a Dell MB? One way to find out but it won't be easy, as this machine is extremly slow...

    CPU upgrade!

hmmmm.... throttling crossed my mind. But then I don't know a way of measuring it, although I know it's running hot, HS is hot. But if it was throttling wouldn't that cause system props & CPUID to measure the Ghz smaller? I don't know at all, I could be completely wrong, but before I...
