    Need some advise

I've actually already got my CPU (XP 2100+) and I've opened the packaging, so I won't be able to get it exchanged now. :( I went AMD because I wanted to keep the costs down as I'll be buying a pioneer DVR-A04, and a Pinnacle Studio Deluxe which are about $950, and $800 Australian respectively...

    Need some advise

Hi All, I'm currently building a new PC specifically for doing DVD authoring, video editing and the like. I thought I was decided on what motherboard to get, and decided on the GIGABYTE GA-7VRXP DDR Socket A. Now that I've got it, it appears that the onboard sound has no inputs/outputs for...

    Hardware or software RAID??

Thanks for your help Boonesmi! I'll check it out.

    Hardware or software RAID??

Hmmmmmm......... Is there a decent RAID card out there that only does RAID 0,1,0+1, the adaptec 1200A for example? I don't need any RAID level other than 0 for this system, so I don't want one with all the bells and whistles such as RAID 5 (even though that would be cool). Coming from another...

    Hardware or software RAID??

I want a decent hardware RAID 0 setup on this machine as it'll be the one I use for all my DVD authoring, Video editing, and 3D animation. Basically anything requiring a fair wack of CPU, ram or I/O performance will be done on this machine. I was going to get a dual CPU system, but the techs at...

    Hardware or software RAID??

So it wasn't just me! I've got a Iwill SIDE-100 RAID 0,1,0+1 using the HPT370 chipset in my Windows 2000 machine, and I have to format it every 4-6 months as the thing just gets data corruptions all over the place. In that case, what's a good RAID,0,1,0+1 card then?

    Hardware or software RAID??

Ok, I had pretty much set my sights on the GIGABYTE GA-7VRXP as I was planning to setup 2X 30GB IBM ATA-100 7200RPM HDD's in hardware RAID 0 on the RAID controller built into the board. However, I've read on other hardware sights that the IDE RAID controllers built into motherboards such as the...

Im planning an Upgrade, I just have a few questions first.

Are you really desperate to upgrade now? With the release of the Hammer and sATA planned for this year, it may be an idea to wait a bit. The realease of this new hardware is probably going to be the most significant change in architecture since the K6-2>Athlon . sATA is supposed to be capable of...

    ATA-133 Information

Speed will be probably marginally faster. But the address bus capacitiy of an ATA-133 controller is 144PB, that's around 144,000,000 GB, whereas the ATA-100 has a limit of 137GB!!! Obviously, this 144PB limit won't be reached for sometime, and no doubt superior technology will be developed...

    ATA-133 Information

Hi All, Just some info you may/may not be interested in. Maxtor say the address bus issue with ATA-133 being a 48-bit address bus, and ATA-100 having a 28-bit address bus will be overcome (with Windows 2000 anyway) with Service Pack 3. For people looking for an ATA-133 RAID 5 card, the...

    Large capacity har drives?

The limit up until now was 137GB. They got around this by using a 48-bit address bus, which is able to address a HUGE 144PB!!! Have a look at http://www.maxtor.com/Maxtorhome.htm as thy're the only ones with a hard drive released on the new ATA-133 technology as far as I know with the...

Hi All, Was wondering if anyone had heard any news on IDE hard drives of 180GB or larger being released in the near future? :)

    HELP...Broadband Networking Question...

If they've giving you the "tough luck" attitude, I'd be reading your contract very carefully, specifically in terms of service levels. If possible I'd also try and get some legal advice, and perhaps even contact the telecommunications onbudsman. Don't take any crap from them, telecommunication...

What Digital Camera would you get?

Hi There, I just got the Kodak DX3600 and am very happy with it. It has a 2.2 megapixel CCD, 2 X optical and 3 X digital zoom for a total of 6 X zoom. It has a cradle with a USB connection which is used to charge the batteries and transfer the pictures/video to you PC, all at single push of a...
