I have the upgrade bug (it must be a spring thing). Right now I have a Zotac GTX 580 Fermi on a i7 2600k OC@ 4.4 (750w PSU)
Seeing as up here in Vancouver the 580’s are going for the same price as the 670’s do you think it would be better to go a single 670 or upgrade to SLI...
The new Arctic Cooling Freezer 13 sort of fixes that issue with the mounting bracket, you secure the bracket with the push pins then screw the HS into the bracket. I have both the AC 7 and AC 13 on my second and third PC and the 13 was soooooooooo much easier to install.
I always thought my Silverstone FT02 was positive pressure. Wouldn't 3 x 18cm intake and only single 12cm exhaust be positive pressure? I know it keeps pretty much every component 5c to 10c cooler that when they were in my P180 which had more exhaust than intake.
I didn't see a list of coolers that might have this issue, I run a Zotac 580 in an FT02 and have never seen if go above 80c even after 6 hours of gaming in mid summer. the 580's use the Vapor Chamber technology with heat pipes and yet I am seeing much lower temps than when the card was in my...
I removed the 3 extra HD enclosures on mine and mounted my 2 HDs closest to the left side. It improved the airflow on the left side and more important it seems to have reduced the "baffle" sound of the air hitting all those slits in the empty enclosures.
I went from stock to 4.5 with my Asus turbo button ( I know lame :) ), I then checked Dragon Age 2 with fraps. I ran the same fight with 10+ critters (lots of calculations )in the merchant quarter. My max FPS was about 5% greater ( 107 to 113 ) and I didn't notice any difference in the...
It depends on what people think satisfactory FPS and quality in a game is. I am just upgrading my C2D 6850 / 4GB ram / Ati 4870 512 system that I paid $2500 over 3 years ago and it is still giving me very good framerates at 1680x1050. Granted I haven’t played the latest and greatest but...
After posting in several threads about “why get a SSD for a gaming machine” I decided to try it for my OS drive and see for myself. I bought a Corsair Force 120GB on sale and the only thing I would like to know is how long should it last before I start seeing degradation and need to...
To each their own I guess. All I know is the 50+ games I have on my system HD speed is not even remotely an issue, its all about the video card, cpu and ram. If you can’t handle the extra 5 - 10 seconds for a level to load you need to get your A.D.D looked at.
Edit:
Don't get me...
I don’t understand this fascination with spending hundreds of dollars for an SSD OS drive on a gaming PC unless he is going to install 1 or 2 games on it then rotate them off as needed. With 8+ GB of ram most games load the entire area you are playing into memory, so unless you have this...
Best upgrade I did last year was going from a 22" Samsung Syncmaster monitor to a 32" Insignia 1080P TV ( monitor ) The colors are so much brighter. I hooked up my old 22" to my second PC which also had an ATI card and compared the picture side by side. It was amazing how much better a TV is...
