I believe RAM to have been the culprit behind the random freezes. In the bios the memory was running at a lower speed than it was supposed, so I changed it to the speed it was marketed at and everything has worked fine since. I am crossing my fingers that this problem will not resurface...

I wouldnt mind restoring back to factory settings, because i didnt have a whole lot on the Ipod anyway. But to do that I thought that I had to have it plugged into the computer which in my case doesnt work, is there some other way of doing this?
