    water leak sensor advice please

http://www.smarthome.com/minotaur-engineering-wsi1-water-moisture-sensor.html Unfortunately those sensors are not water proof as well. If they get wet enough they will quit working. I am counting on the sensor relaying the command to shutoff the water before it quits working. In practice, as...

    water leak sensor advice please

http://www.smarthome.com/smarthome-select-electronic-water-shutoff-valve-3-4-inch-12v-dc.html I have this off my water main coming into my house being triggered by 10-12 water leak sensors located around the house. Works pretty damn good. Even have it communicating with the I/O hub (which is...

    Anandtech electricians need some advice

I would use the ground wire regardless. There is a tapped hole for a grounding screw in many metal boxes nowadays, it doesn't take up much time at all to tie the metal box to ground.

how to hide cat5 cable installaton from 1st fl to basement?

I would do some research about running any cable perpendicular or parallel with a cold air return. You could find that you maybe in violation of the NEC. Any electricians in the house?

You need to follow code whenever you do any work on your house. See 314.19 thru 314.22. It appears that as long as your extension is flush or protrudes from your wall you should be ok.

    Any electricians in the house?

The transformer housing isn't in cased in a junction box. I would definitely recommend you adding an extension onto this existing box to prevent overheating. The problem is, that NEC code requires the extension to be flush with the wall, so you will have to make the existing ceiling box go...

    Any electricians in the house?

Doesn't even look like a proper electrical junction box was used. Isn't this a fire hazard? If one of those wires shorted out and ignited that material, it would burn that wall down no problem. Typically an electrical junction box would (in the event of a short circuit that produces sparks)...
