4870 or 4870*2 may required high current from PSU, 600 Watt should be enough for you, 850 watt seems over kill.

the voltage reading is in spec, but pc use most dc power when play game, so it is difficult to say psu is fault, did you even run Prime 95 to check your pc stability? cpu overheat can casue similar problem as yours.

I remove the cover of my EVGA8800gts (G80) 640 MB fan cover, tie a 1500RPM 12cm fan on the heatsink. the result: idel lower 8 degrees, load drop 10 degrees. fan cost $3.99 result is total surprise, the only problem: hot air used go out the case, now it stay inside the case much longer.

it depends on the psu efficency rating, most psu has best efficencly between 25% to 75% loading. So I always select a psu has twice power rate as you pc power requirement.
