    Anyone have ASUS A8V Deluxe?

I sent my comment directly to Mr Crucial, and haven't received any response, nor any comment in this thread for three days. No one is questioning whether Ballistix are good or not, just whether they work in this board. See:http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=29&threadid=1469337...

Help! Asus A8V deluxe rev2 + Crucial Ballistix problem...

:disgust: The question has been, is it the Board or the RAM? I think I have a pretty solid answer: neither. Allow me to explain. I wanted to see if anyone was having luck with the A8V, so I did some highly targeted google searches to see if anyone has much success. The answer is yes...

    winchester steppings

Mine is on the not as successful side, so it should be helpful from that perspective. OC to 2400Mhz, from 2000 (3200+ winchester). From Monarch. Stepping as reported in OS and CPU-Z is 0, rev. DH8-D0. -bo3bber

    Anyone have ASUS A8V Deluxe?

Actually, you didn't show that Ballistix can run stably at the specified speeds, so bringing it to a close seems awfully premature. To demonstrate the memory works as expected, I still want to see: 1) 12 hour Prime95 test. 2) 3 hour 3d game testing. 3) multiple loops memtest86 (for...

    Anyone have ASUS A8V Deluxe?

Why did your Sandra score drop so far? 2T timing perhaps? Also, if it's easy, please run a looping 3d test overnight, just to add extra confidence in stability. I'm still skeptical that the A8V can run 250 reliably. Thanks, -bo3bber

Help! Asus A8V deluxe rev2 + Crucial Ballistix problem...

In answer to Lauy's question, of whether it's the board or the RAM, I still believe it's the board. I had previously thought that I could not exceed 200Mhz, but that was an error. I can exceed 200Mhz, as long as I accept the slow timings of my SPD of 3 4 4 10. Since the RAM is rated at...

adeathangel; as lauy noted, you want to be certain that your system is stable without any overclocking first. Once that is true, I would recommend going about it the other way, i.e. keep it stable, and keep pushing up parameters, rather than trying to find out what is making it unstable at a...

Help! Asus A8V deluxe rev2 + Crucial Ballistix problem...

More results! I was wrong... Looks like I was wrong with respect to upping the RAM bus to more than 200Mhz. My theory was that the A8V was holding us back on the RAM bus. But, I am presently running at 230Mhz, for 12 hours in Prime95, and 4 hours in Jedi (max temp 52c). No errors...

Help! Asus A8V deluxe rev2 + Crucial Ballistix problem...

Wow! Thanks for doing the test KheeWhee! Very interesting. I'd thought Prime95 would be the best test, but it's clear that 3d games exercise the system in a different way that is equally valuable. I also went back to try to overclock only the RAM, leaving the CPU stock at 2Ghz...

Help! Asus A8V deluxe rev2 + Crucial Ballistix problem...

Interesting results KheeWhee. I wanted to try to replicate your results too. I have been able to overclock the CPU to 2400, from 2000, with no errors. But, have not been able to overclock the RAM at all. To try to reproduce your results, I set it up as: 1T = disabled 2T in BIOS...

Help! Asus A8V deluxe rev2 + Crucial Ballistix problem...

Thanks for the tip. I ran Sandra benchmark in both cases, once with 2T command set to disabled, and once on Auto. Both results were the same, at 5983 MB/s. Implying that it must default to 1T as we expected. So far so good. I'm going to keep pushing up the HTT/FSB using logical...

Help! Asus A8V deluxe rev2 + Crucial Ballistix problem...

Confusing, that's how it's set... I would expect it to be at 1T, because the RAM is set on Auto, it's running at a much slower speed than it's spec-ed, at 200Mhz, instead of 250, and the memory is running loose at 3-3-3. But, I can't tell in a way that I have confidence. CPU-Z doesn't...

Help! Asus A8V deluxe rev2 + Crucial Ballistix problem...

Hey, I have some much better results. 20% overclock for now, not killer yet, but much better than before. Started with a 3200+ Winchester, at 2Ghz. I have succeeded in overclocking to 2400Mhz, which is the 3800+ rating. 100% solid, 6 hours on Prime95, 3 hours on Jedi Academy without any...

Help! Asus A8V deluxe rev2 + Crucial Ballistix problem...

Well... I have the same trouble as you all. A8V deluxe, with PC4000 RAM (250 MHz). But I cannot seem to overclock the RAM much past 210 Mhz before it falls over in Prime95. Here's what I think is going on: The A8V is only specified to use DDR400 (200 Mhz) Ram. That is the max the board...

Wouldn't it be better to buy cheaper, faster RAM?

My apologies for not being clear enough. I'm currently specifying parts for a new computer that I plan to build in the next month. My older computer is seriously older (3+ years, Athlon 1.0Ghz!), and thus there are no parts that are worth using in the new computer. Since I have to buy new...
