How is this setup for a MCE 2005 Media Server?

Well, I would go that cheap, but I want to make sure that I get something that's "MCE 2005 Compatible" since I am running MCE 2005 on it to void any issues. I think ATI has a cheap $50 PCI-E version that is approved. I'll have to look over the list.

How is this setup for a MCE 2005 Media Server?

Maybe I was using the wrong terminology here, but basically I am building a file server to supply PVR programs, DVDs, MP3s, etc. to several televisions in the house. Apparantly, I will need MCE 2005 on here as well as my HTPC in my media room. The server will have 2 extenders (1 Xbox and 1...

How is this setup for a MCE 2005 Media Server?

Hey, Here's the system I am currently thinking of putting together for a Windows MCE 2005 Media Server. Please note that it's going to house PVR files, Ripped DVDs from my store bought collection, MP3's and anything else that's a file. I need something stable! I'll run my SATA drives in...

    Video cards for HTPC/Gaming Rig

Thanks for the link Fallen Kell. Isn't the Purevideo "broken" on the 6800GT's? I think that's why most are going for the 6600GT's because the 6800GT and the 6800Ultras are not working correctly with Purevideo. I also read the plain 6800 works fine with Purevideo. Snowman, I don't have...

    Video cards for HTPC/Gaming Rig

Thanks for the links and the info. As far as video processing/quality goes for HTPC use, which brand would be better? I know they both tout their own "HD quality playback" and their accelleration, etc. Is one better than the other, i.e. like AMD is "better" for gaming than Intel?

    Video cards for HTPC/Gaming Rig

I have several options for connectivity for my projector. I can use DVI as I have 2 of them on the projector, component, S-Video, VGA. I was planning on DVI. Don't get my wrong, my projector can handle higher resolutions, the fact being I'd rather just stick to the native res on my...

    Video cards for HTPC/Gaming Rig

I am searching for the right video card(s) for my up and coming HTPC. First and foremost it needs to process video well. Rest assured I will have a fast processor, and enough memory, so take that into consideration. Second, it needs to play today's games like Half-Life 2, Doom 3, UT all with the...

Need your help! My computer isn't hip!

Yeah, that's hardly the case. This system is "average" in my opinion. At least compared to what I've seen out there!

Perfect. Anything less than 1600 x 1200 on my monitor doesn't look that great. Video card it is! How's the ATI x800 XT Platinum compared to the 6800GT?

    Xbox2

It wasn't Burnout. It was the next Need For Speed game they announced for all next gen consoles including PS3, Xbox 2 and Nintendo's next box.

bob4432, Which cooling option would you suggest for the video card? There are 3 it seems that are the most common. 1) Zalman Heat Pipe (I'm guessing the dual one) 2) ATI Cooler (which is an update to the one I have, which I think kinda sucks since the fan port going out the case isn't...

Need your help! My computer isn't hip!

I run at 1600 x 1200 (native res for my monitor) and games like Doom3, City of Heroes and Half-Life 2 with full blown settings (without AA and AF, or actually it's just at program settings), the framerates are all over the board. In intense battles, it's from 12 to 25 fps. Horrid. Some cases...
