System issues with both RAM slots filled

All, I have an older HP system with an ASUS A7V-VM motherboard; it takes pc133 ram. It came with 512 total, (2x256). I recently bought 2x512 sticks. ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820159006 ) If I put both sticks of RAM in, the system will not boot. With...

    Computer won't POST

Thanks for the replies. I made sure to double check that all fans were still plugged in, comp was plugged in and PS switched on, surge was still on, etc. As near I can remember when I turned it on there was nothing different except less dust. Yes the fact that it turned on briefly and...

    Computer won't POST

My computer isn't POSTing any more. Until yesterday it was running just fine (just fine meaning I know everything was plugged in correctly and no case shorts). I did have an overheating issue though, and would get lockups and spontaneous reboots. I decided to get in and try to start cleaning...

    Wireless LAN and Gaming?

Thanks, I browsed the first few pages but must have missed it :)

    Wireless LAN and Gaming?

Whoops, hit enter slightly too fast. I just moved into a new place, and the cable jacks are in about the worst place they could be for running wire (it's an apartment so I can't go through walls, etc). I was interested in setting it up wireless, which would make my life easier now and later in...

Can't find cause of occasional ~1 sec freezes, maybe cpu spiking

It appears as though it was the Nic. I picked up one today that's supported by XP and all is well (at least it has been to this point). Thanks for the help :)

    Motherboard Temp1/Temp2

Stupid question, but what do those temps refer to? Is Temp1 idle temp, and Temp2 full load? If it's not a standard thing, my motherboard is a Soltek DRV5.

Can't find cause of occasional ~1 sec freezes, maybe cpu spiking

Well after 2 reformats I'm 100% certain it's not the Audigy, I reformatted twice without it. It happens with a fresh install of windows and only UT installed. However, I thought I checked this before but it seems that it's only happening online, and it seems to get worse as I play longer...

Can't find cause of occasional ~1 sec freezes, maybe cpu spiking

Last night I learned about the VIA PCI Latency patch, I tried that out but it didn't help. I also tried a few things with the sound card, removing everything, using on board instead of the audigy, but nothing helped. Anybody have an idea? :)

Can't find cause of occasional ~1 sec freezes, maybe cpu spiking

I tried both removing the audigy and putting it in another slot and no help. Upped Voltage without help. Changed UT cache without help. I tried to flash the bios last night but for some reason awdflash wouldn't even finish when I just ran it to see the arguments (/?). I'll play with that...

Can't find cause of occasional ~1 sec freezes, maybe cpu spiking

Thanks for the suggestions, I will check them out tonight. My PSU is an Enermax 330W P-4 PS. Other than the listed hardware the only thing in the machine is a Plextor CDRW so it shouldn't be overloaded, though I guess I shouldn't count it out.

The voltage should be default, probably 1.75V. What's a good setting, 1.92V or somewhere in between? Cooling should be ok. I don't disagree that moving the Audigy may help, but what's the logic behind it? Just for my own knowledge. It happens with trillian unloaded.

Not unless you count XP :) It happened even the first time I started up UT which was the only thing on the machine besides Windows.

Can't find cause of occasional ~1 sec freezes, maybe cpu spiking
