Accessing Enermax TB Silent 120mm case fan's bearings

Here's a video of someone removing the Fan blade from a Enermax TB fan … video … don't know if that is the same fan you're referring too.

Beware SSDs with missing ATA features! (Team L7 EVO)

120GB SSD for $35 … wow. And it's an EVO SSD … … Yehaaaa! … … to be confused with a Samsung EVO. Some site needs to take a bunch of these elcheapo drives and do an endurance test on them.

New SSD for old i7 dekstop

I would put the Mushkin Reactor on your list. It has a good controller and MLC. See … TR review. The Reactor 1TB frequently goes on sale for about $200. Bigger is better when it comes to SSD's as you have more flash to spread the writes to, and more empty space means less housekeeping for the...

Any Nice 1151 Fan coolers for i7-6700K?

Thanks for those pic's. Great little cases those In-Win 901, although things look a little tighter in that case than I thought they were from the initial pictures I saw of them. That HSF goes well with the aesthetics and clean layout theme you have going on in that case. Nice build, congrats.

Intel 540s worth it at $380

I would also consider looking for a Mushkin Reactor 1TB. Good controller and MLC. Newegg.ca had them for $249 (CAD) but are currently sold out. Amazon.ca has them for $384.

Memory/mobo issue? Won't boot with with 4 sticks, will boot with any two in any slots

Is the command rate with 4 sticks ram being set to 1T or 2T? Perhaps the default timings for 4 sticks were set too tight in the BIOS. If so, could possibly manually set lower timings.

Any Nice 1151 Fan coolers for i7-6700K?

Arctic Alpine 11 plus Just installed one on my 1156 i3-530 (cost $16 Canadian). Quite impressed actually, and I think the thermal ratings on this HSF combo are on the conservative side. It would be better (and quieter) than the stock Intel HSF, but not by a large amount as the heatpipe...

    Cleaning Arctic MX-4 with what?

update. Picked up some isopropyl alcohol last week. They sell it at pharmacies -- rubbing alcohol in 70% and 99.9% concentrations. Bought the 99.9% stuff. Did a fairly good job of getting the MX4 off the cotton fabric. A slight stain remains, but otherwise not bad. The iso did an...

    Cleaning Arctic MX-4 with what?

I bought an Arctic Alpine 11 plus HSF, which comes with pre-applied MX-4. Accidentally touched the side of the HSF with MX-4 on it to some cotton cloth and I am trying to find something that will clean it off. Was surprised acetone didn't work.

Warning: new code word for TLC - "Cost-effective MLC".

This just stinks. I always thought that 2-bit/cell NAND should have been called DLC (double-level cell), rather than the catch all greater than 1 MLC. Then we wouldn't have to deal with these naming shenanigans.

    Cleaning Arctic MX-4 with what?

Suppose you get some MX-4 on some clothing -- or just cleaning it for reapplication. What can be used to clean this stuff? I've tried acetone, Spiced Rum (yup … its got ethanol alcohol in it … :)), windshield washer fluid (methyl alcohol) and no luck so far dissolving this stuff. I've read...

    Which SSD?

They will benchmark faster, but in everyday use for the majority of users and situations, I doubt you'd really notice a difference. The older smaller drives like the M4 128GB will have quite a bit slower write speeds (about 185MB/s) but it will still read at 500MB/s -- so loading programs and...

    2TB Mushkin SSD

I checked Mushkin's site and they have the same numbers listed as Newegg. I'm wondering if that is a misprint (someone at Mushkin messed up the spec. sheet) because it's so much lower than the other drives in that series.

    Toshiba 7200rpm drives run hot?

It's my impression and experience is that new HDD's run a little hotter when new and gradually run a little cooler as the bearings get worn in. And this was especially true of the old drives (years ago) that used steel ballbearings in the bearings instead of the newer FDB (fluid dynamic...
