Mind explaining this statement? A Hertz is simply 1/s. So yes 60Hz, technically, is equivalent to 60 FPS, or 60 m/s, etc... If you mean that the monitor's refresh rate has no bearing on a video game's framerate then yes and no... ever hear of VSync?

While I am just a sample size of one, I have measured the difference and it is substantial... 2-3 times in the games I mentioned.

Going from a E6750 at 3.2GHz to a 2500K at 4.8GHz doubled or tripled my framerate in BFBC2, StarCraft 2, MechWarrior Living Legends, etc. CPU-heavy games do exist, more than you might think. I think you're in the minority with your (completely anecdotal) assessment.

I was going to say Vaio Z, but yeah... You might be able to find one cheap, I got mine for $1500 and I've seen them as low as $999, even a few flukey ones for like $850 with an Xbox 360 last Black Friday at the MS store. I love mine, video card overclocks 30%+ which puts it into the same...

Depends on the laptop... some can do it through a hardware switch, others can do it in software, others you can't. My Vaio Z has a light sensor so it's only on when it's dark, and there are software tweaks (registry edits) to disable it, leave it always on or adjust the light sensor sensitivity.

Disable PLL Overvoltage if it's on. Known Intel issue.

Or you know, people who actually use their machines for more than just farmville. 1366x768 on a 15.4 is an abomination. 1440x900 should be the minimum res for that panel, and 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 should be a lot more common than it is for 15.4" as well.

The Sony Vaio Z has 1600x900 and 1920x1080 options on a 13.1" screen. It's amazing. I have the 900p and it's perfect for me.
