    NetSwitcher is a shareware program for Windows that saves all of you network and printer settings as profiles. You can switch back and forth between work and home networks simply by selecting a different profile.

    Assuming the workstations use the router as the gateway, you don't even need a server. The server is only necessary if you are setting up a network domain.

    For what it's worth: Moving files between my WinNT4 server and Win98SE workstation via 10/100Mbps NIC's, Cat5 cable and Netgear FS105 fast ethernet switch I max out at about 21.6Mbps.

    I have Win98SE on one of my boxes. ICS is listed under Add/Remove Programs --> Windows Setup --> Intenet Tools.

    I haven't run into a DSL ISP yet, and I've had three, that will provide support for a non-provided modem. So you'd be on your own for support. There is a pretty lively trade in DSL modems on eBay, but I think it is mostly people picking up used models of the same hardware their ISP sells.
