    Dropped and cracked External HDD

I just used HD Tune to check for errors, and a block came up red (190mb each, but showed 0.00% of entire drive...). I used the Windows chkdsk to auto repair errors and recover sectors, but HD Tune still showed that same block. Guess I'll just use this drive for less important stuff. I can't...

    Dropped and cracked External HDD

Bahh, trying not to back up my backup but I guess I'll look at some HDD deals... How did yours die? Did you drop them, show corrupted data, or just didn't power up?

    Dropped and cracked External HDD

Just dropped my WD My Book on the rug 2ft high and the corner cracked, with the internal panel (attached to the hdd and electronics) sliding out a bit. I shove them back in place and everything seems to work, but would there be any possible damage or corruption to the data? I'm pretty sure...

Do usb cables plugged only to the Mobo drain electricity?

I just got a digital tablet that I like to disconnect when not in use to conserve energy, but having the usb slots in the back of the pc only, I leave that part connected and just disconnect the device. My pc's Logitech power supply cable runs warm even when I turn off the speakers and computer...

    Mysterious computer problem, any ideas?

What brand is the PSU Doubt it's the mobo from the looks of it, and a faulty HDD wouldn't shut down the entire system.

New mobo, old HDD works, still reformat?

I just replaced my Biostar Tforce 550 mobo w/ a similar Tforce 770, and my old HDD loads up perfectly. But should I still reformat the drive? I haven't had any pervious problems with the disk and doesn't feel bogged down. I've read differing opinions on this: some say you should some say you...

MB, CPU, or PS What do you think is wrong?

Check the mobo's capacitors to see if any are bulging or leaking. Would help to rule it out more certainly.

Computer won't turn on....then turns on by itself!

Ok I found this tidbit of info: "Finally, your power supply has a series of capacitors that store electricity. This lets you power up your computer without using a mechanical switch. When you press your computer's power button, the capacitor discharges a 5.5-volt current, telling the power...

Computer won't turn on....then turns on by itself!

Lately my desktop had some problems turning on - first nothing happens on the first power button press then boots on the second, then soon after needed to press it 3x before powering on. Well just now, after spending an hour double-checking and reconnecting the cables and refitting a used...

almost no OC potential on new CPU?!

I'm using a Biostar T-force 550, not the best but worked swell with my previous cpu. Nice to know if it's not an uncommon thing, though - don't wanna blame my other components for the lack of OC'ing.

almost no OC potential on new CPU?!

I just got the new dual core cpu and can't even push it to 2.75ghz without it restarting. My ram (OCZ Gold ddr2667) is pretty underclocked as well, running 260mhz, and I'm just sticking with stock cpu speeds now. I was able to push my 3000+ to 2.8ghz on the same components, so I'm led to...

    Computer won't turn on (sometimes)

My motherboard is a BIOSTAR TFORCE 550 (AM2) and my power supply is an Antec SP-400. Just as an update, I turned it off recently and it failed to start up again. This time I didn't reconnect anything, but switched the current switch on the back of the PS from off to on again, then it worked.

    Computer won't turn on (sometimes)

My computer worked fine until someone tampered with the fuse switch and turned off the current to my computer. Afterwards, it wouldn't turn on again. The lights and everything would flash and power up a split second after pressing the power button, then nothing else. I could do this repeatedly...

    Good MP3 players?

I'm looking for another program that sounds "better" on a 7.1 speaker setup. I'm a bit of an audiophile, and found PowerDVD, WMP10, and Creative's music player to sound better - has more of a "surround" feel to it. Thing is, PowerDVD doesn't display the playlist while it's playing, WMP distorts...

    DHCP problem

I'm not familliar with the terms in networking such as MAC addresses. I simply transferred my DSL service last year, ran the setup disk as needed to initiate the DSL, and that's it. This constant d/c, r/c started occuring a few months ago.
