if your monitor has a DVI input, your PC has a DVI output and you have an extra DVI cable lying around, there's no reason not to use it. DVI is simply newer and better: that is digital, though I doubt you'll see significant or any improvement on a small sized LCD, I'm guessing differences...

From ATI's side: X1600 XT is somewhat cheaper (the cheapest one is ~$140), but it does not offer nearly the same level of performance as 7600GT. The next card up the ladder for ATI (for current generation cards) is X1800 GTO, but it starts at ~$200.
