Can you view the ip information? MAC addresss, IP address?
If you can't hit the DHCP server, manually assign an address and see if you can ping it from another computer. Also try pinging the loop back address (127.0.0.1) to make sure that TCP/IP is properly installed.
We do it all the time here at work when the drive completely dies. It works less than half the time, but if the drive is dead, then there's no harm in trying.
