P8Z77-M PRO BIOS 1908 - anyone tested it yet?

I just made the upgrade 1806 ==> 1908 with no problem. I downloaded the BIOS so the file would be on my system and then used AI Suite II to do the update. The only odd thing was my system rebooted twice after the update - first reboot never even showed the BIOS screen -it just immediately shut...

    Samsung 840 Pro/Drivers

I use the Intel one on my P8Z77M system. Device Manager shows it as Intel(R) Series/C216 Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller I too wonder why it says C216 Chipseet - but that's what it installed.

Will parts on desk work OK?

I'm going to be taking all the drives out of my current PC and putting them into a new system who's parts (motherboard, PSU, CPU, RAM, video card, fan) arrived next Tuesday. But the new case doesn't arrive until Friday. So is there any problem with putting the parts together on my desktop and...

    Can I swap motherboards without re-installing Win7-64?

Raincity - yes,, I've read that but it seems to me that Sysprep does more than I need and it does not avoid the need to re-validate Win7 during the first boot. So I think I'll only do the Sysprep thing if I can't get a regular boot to work. Kinger - I am aware I'll have to re-validate my copy...

    Can I swap motherboards without re-installing Win7-64?

My current system is Win7-64 SP1 running in an ASUS P6T motherboard with i7-920 & 6GB RAM. My boot drive is a Samsung 840-Pro SSD. I'm planning on building a new system with an ASUS P877-M board running an i7-3770S with 8GB RAM so I can get SATA3, USB3, a faster CPU, and a smaller form...

    Weird SSD behavior, 840 series.

Coup27 Excellent explanation -thanks. The intelligence built in to the latest CPU chips certainly makes the benchmarking process more complex that simply running a piece of software and looking at the results. It will be interesting to see if the developers of benchmark software start...

Do I need to load Intels RST

After reading this thread I just installed the RST 11.7.0.1013 drivers on my W7n7-64 system running on an old ASUS P6T motherboard. My boot drive is an 840 Pro and the installation of the updated RST drivers went smooth as silk. I ran the installation from the EXE file as a regular Windows...

SSDs and defrag, if not unnecessary, harmful?

I'm not so sure that it is. On a HDD Windows reads the FAT to determine which parts of a file are where. On a HDD the FAT is a table that identifies where files are. But on an SSD the SSD firmware relocates blocks of data based on where is thinks is best. Moreover, it (the SSD firmware)...

Please Help me Make Right SSD Purchase?

Samsung just put up their own SSD cloning tool. Unfortunately for me it was about a week late - I had to use something else to clone my drive. But the 840 Pro is a great drive and I would certainly recommend it. You can get the Samsung clone software at the 840 Pro download site. There is...

    Samsung 840's Longevity and Reliability

Thanks Hellhammer, you have done a nice job on identifying and explaining the Samsung SSD firmware problems. I held off buying my 840 Pro pending resolution of this issue - I've had the drive for a couple of weeks now and it's terrific. Your info should help a lot of people decide on what...

    Two Samsung 840 Pro's & 1 840 have failed, 4 at [H]ardOCP (Early review sample SSD's)

I installed am 840 Pro 3 days ago and have had no problems once I got through the cloning process (where I did have problems.) I did NOT use GPT because I had read somewhere that GPT can cause problems with certain aspects of Win7. Once I got my system in a position where it could boot OK from...
