I got it figured out. The desktop computer is running ZoneAlarm. I went into ZoneAlarm to specify a Trusted Zone IP range for my entire LAN. With that, my laptop's Network Places recognizes the Shared Folder right away.

I would say it's a 'Hot Deal'. IBM Thinkpads are well-built machines, and this laptop comes with quite a lot of extras ..... DVD, Win2K, 56k modem, NIC, PIII processor, 15" screen. The e-mail account at www.com is provided through BigMailBox. I believe BigMailBox is a similar company as Everyone.net Hence, my guess is the e-mail account will NOT be POP3 compliant. It is specifically a web-based e-mail account. Hope this helps. :)
