    Dream noiceless computer?

You should go for a steel case if quietness is your top priority. An alumininum case is prone to vibration and resonance and generally noisier than a steel case. If you go for an aluminum case, try to pick one with thick side panels. Avoid Chieftec aluminum case since it only uses 1mm/0.8mm (I...

    Granite Bay?

I'm just like Ninepepper. I'm now waiting for Granite Bay and C-1 stepping P4 1.8/2.26 to come out. I've got a pair of Crucial PC2100 that I bought last year for a KT266 board, which I didn't buy after all, and have been sitting on the shelf since. In the meantime, I switched to Intel primarily...

How would you attain Dell's level of effective cooling?

Just do as Dell does: ducting your CPU HS to your case fan. You can make a duct that doesn't resonate out of Ziploc Freezer Bag or the like. Of course, you have to use a quiet case fan.

    Quiet, Cool, Cheap Fan?

I suggest 5-volting this Evercool fan. If you want a bit more CFM, you could 7-volt it. Specwise, this is a good one to undervolt.

Panaflo or Papst 60 mm fans???

I haven't heard either, but Directron's specs match those on manufacturers' catalogues. Specwise, however, I'd suggest Adda's 60mm fan. It's available at Pham Computer.

    where to buy papst/panaflow/ornix fans

You can buy Papst fans from Directron, too. You might like to consider PCP&C's Silencer also.

    what's the quietest powersupply? 400watts?

As someone said, the quietest PSU may be the one you mod by yourself. You can buy a premodded Enermax from noisecontrol.de, however. If you don't want to mod your PSU but want a cheap and quiet PSU, try Codegen. It has a single quiet fan. Also new Raidmax (aluminium one) seems to be quiet, as...

    modding enermax PS...

    1. I epoxied this heatsink on each of heatsinks in the Enermax PSU using Arctic Silver Thermal Adhesive. 2. Using a plier, I bent each grid of grilles on the surface of the Enermax where power leads comes out 90 degrees, so that air coming into the PSU is not obstructed by grilles. The...

Zalman vs Enermax - which is quieter?

That's even better, much better! Use Papst 8412NGL, though. Papst 8412NGL is rated at 12dBA/19CFM, much quieter than Panaflo L1A (21dBA/24CFM). I have extensively modded my loud Enermax 351V-P and I'm using a no-name fan (Colorful, CF-128025MS) at 5v, which is now estimated to be around...

    modding enermax PS...

I modded my Enermax like hmsrolst did, as far as fan replacement is concerned. I replaced 8cm fan with a Silencer and 7-volted it. Later I switched it to a fan with somewhat more dBA & CFM and 5-volted it. Of course, I took out 9cm, but left the opening uncovered. Moreover, I added heatsinks to...

Anyone complete an Enermax power supply fan mod?

I have modded my rather old Enermax (351V-P). The easiest way to deal with a 80mm fan is to ignore the original connector inside the PSU and connect your new fan to a 4-pin molex connector on a lead from PSU. Actually this is how I replaced the 80mm exhaust fan of my Enermax. This way, you don't...

    Best P4 heatsink?

You are on the right track. There is nothing better than the combination of Alpha PAL8942 and Papst 8412NGL unless you are going to undervolt some other fan. None of Panaflo L1A, PCP&C Silencer, Papst 8412NGML, etc. , that is, none of those fans rated at around 20dBA are really quiet...

Silent 80mm fan recommendations? Vantec vs PCP&C

I haven't tried Vantec Stealth, but I have compared Silencer and Panaflo L1A side by side. Silencer's CFM rating seems to be a bit exaggerated. At least air pressure from Panaflo L1A was perceptibly greater than that from Silencer. However, Silencer's noise rating seems to be more accurate. At...

do 92mm to 60mm fan adapters work

As Pul54r explained, you'll need a higher CFM 90mm fan to get the same cooling effect with a 60mm fan to be replaced. Often you won't get much reduction in noise either, due to this fact. I guess you'd better look for a quieter 60mm fan, like Adda's 16dBA/13CFM fan, or undervolt a moderately...
