Star Citizen: Chris Robert`s new space sim (the Wing Commander guy)

There's a problem with the Cult of Roberts and their reliance on Chris's statements: As one dev who worked closely with Roberts put it, 'Roberts believes everything he says, no matter how tenuously connected to reality it may be.' Also considers him to be a narcissistic egomaniac. In the...

Wouldn't be surprised if their monthly outlay was in the range of $2mil per.

Do you like Jeremy Soule's soundtracks?

Morrowind was my favorite. Oblivion and Skyrim are just re-workings of that. Soule did a ton of work for earlier games (NWN, Icewind Dale, etc), which I enjoyed. He definitely appears to be from the John Williams camp, and has a lot of technical expertise and occasional compositional brilliance.

Shroud of the Avatar (Ultima 'reboot'?) Release 1 - December 12th-ish

I'd say game productions are much more like film productions: Large crews at work, with a ton of chances for success or failure individually. The name at the top can get far more credit or blame than is actually deserved. Garriott is more of a scatter brained idea guy. He's not a great...

Is ESO going to self destruct before it even launches?

IF the game was DaoC2, the racial/faction locks could make some sense. If you are going to try to appeal to the Elder Scrolls fanbase, you have to actually pay attention to what they want. The number of Elder Scrolls fans dwarfs the number of DaoC hardliners. It wasn't a good idea from the...

Star Citizen: Chris Robert`s new space sim (the Wing Commander guy)

Their PR and marketing has been stellar..... I think they realize that they are making about a million a month with their present scheme. Delivering something that is actually concrete will interfere with the fantasy they are selling. Best to have it as polished as possible, of course, for...

Star Citizen: Chris Robert`s new space sim (the Wing Commander guy)

Did you miss this? "you expect the worst from the person responsible for wing commander, strike commander, privateer, starlancer and freelancer? this isn't his first rodeo lol! " Several of those had troubled incubation or little input from Roberts. But they still get listed as his...

Star Citizen: Chris Robert`s new space sim (the Wing Commander guy)

Ah, the old continuing appeal to authority. Most of the programming for Wing Commander was done by someone else. Roberts had less to do with WCII as just producer, as he was heavily involved with Strike Commander (which came out years late, with over a million man hours of work jettisoned)...

"It may look the same, but the distinction is important." Because it's different if you pay in advance? Looks like a Duck..... Though really, he has a credulous money spigot as it is.

The final days of LucasArts from the inside

Anyone who works in the business, and wants to continue to work in the business, wisely remains nameless. Or is it somehow different wherever you're at?

YAKickStarter - Terminus 'city-builder' set on a distant, inhospitable planet

Sorry, that's just a waste of time. IF you are setting up a gaming of building outposts on planets, you should have a planet. Good, bad, tough, easy. A planet. Anything else is just obtuse. It's like those Traveller games where you'd spend an hour rolling up a character to have him die on...

"Creation science ... should be incorporated into every Biology book" in Texas

This has some interesting bits about how the clout of the Texas Education Board has just recently been shrunk. Both California and Texas had some defacto power just due to the huge numbers of books orders. At least in Texas, that appears to be lessening. Due to the underappreciation of...

Hate WASD, not happy with arrows. Any suggestions?

I just sit on the home row keys and use my ring finger for the W. When I started playing games (on someone else's computer) no one told me that they did it otherwise, so that's how it seemed natural. Plus it leaves my index finger free to hit other keys. Probably doesn't help the OP at all...
