Visiting my hometown of St Thomas, USVI for a bit:

Found a different method for those with Olympus or Panasonic. If you've got a camera that has Live (View) Composite, this thing is like magic and you won't really have overexposed shots because it's not going to keep the shutter open the entire time. It'll create a composite shot in camera...

You can use a tripod, set it up for a reasonably long exposure and just wait. If you've got time lapse function, you can set it to trigger the shutter automatically so you can standby and let the camera do its thing. The ones I took were about 15 seconds long. Of course, if the wind is really...

The caveman technique that I saw was to just keep re-centering the subject and shoot many shorter exposures to stack for a final, cleaner, more detailed, image. Frustrating, but hey it might be an interesting test of patience and skill to do it the hard way and the lower the focal length, the...

Couldn't take a tripod to the museum, so I found a flat bar railing and set the camera up with all the kids running around -- kinda of sketchy, but I was going to get a shot of the Empire State Building!

Went as chaperone for my daughter to a track meet the other day. Since I was stuck with the camera equipment, I couldn't really get a decent view, but I took a few. Here are the decent shots: After that, on the way home, the Journal Squared buildings were covered in mist and, with the...

Edit: working now? Edit 2: Nope I see that BBCode to share from Flickr, it's broken. Not sure if I changed some setting or whatever. However, using the regular (shortened) share link works. I went back and edited my links to share from Imgur, but hey, since the regular share link works, I'll...

It's been super duper dry and windy here in NJ, so there's nothing interesting going on in the sky, but I liked the light on the buildings: Edit: Flickr links broken on here so I'm going to use Imgur:

Much better than my images which are just blobs of color, lolol. Still, it was very cool to finally see aurora in real life.

Been up this side 18 years and never been to Coney Island, but I finally went over there the other day. I'll have to return next year to see the crowds:

Are P&S compacts a bad idea in 2024?

I think the first thing to do is determine what focal length you most use and then work out what smallish setup would fit the bill. Otherwise, you'll buy something that makes you wish you'd walked with everything else.

This is probably a place I'll never visit in my lifetime, but I wish I could have a walk around with my camera. Here are a couple of places I spotted on Google Maps:

Man, this summer has been way too damn hot and humid. The only thing good has been the storms that blow in and out pretty fast and provide some drama. Had to run to get this one and I still missed a more prominent second rainbow:

Couldn't setup my tripod and get the settings right, so I took video instead -- not the best of the best quality, but hey:
