Comment re: combination of ASUS with ASUS:
My new system is K8V with Athlon 64 3000+ and ASUS V9560 graphics (nVidia FX 5600 chipset).
BIOS booted fine but Windows never booted up at all -- until I replaced the CD-ROM supplied ASUS V9560 graphics driver by the newest driver on the ASUS website...
For the V9560, the reference nVidia driver works OK whereas even the updated ASUS driver from the ASUS website crashed my Windows 98 SE (M/B K8V, Athlon 64 3000+) every time. Thus: nVidia.
But why can't ASUS do it right?
Problem solved! Do not use the driver on the supplied CD-ROM. Do NOT use the updated driver from the ASUS website. Rather, use the nVidia reference driver (for FX 5600). Windows boots fine. Program does not crash any more.
