    usb : WHY don't most mobo's allow divert +5vSB current to +5??

Hello, I'm shopping for a new psu and just discovered that USB devices draw power from the +5vSB connection. Frankly, I'm kind of surprised that there aren't more problems as a result of this! I don't need a psu for gaming so I have no reason to spend more than say $65 on a decent psu. In...

why is eSATA enclosure with Oxford chipset slow?

thanks...maybe it is related to the capacity of the external hdd's and how they respond when they hit the pcmcia bottleneck...the 1TB drive being the largest is slower? Mind if I ask what enclosure model are you using? I googled that particular Oxford chip and it seemed to always lead back to...

why is eSATA enclosure with Oxford chipset slow?

thanks so much for responding. I forgot to mention also that the test results were with the *unused* 3.5 drive, right after formatting. I tested multiple times, then and now (after adding files to the drive) but same results. I just don't understand how the 3.5 could be slower than both...

why is eSATA enclosure with Oxford chipset slow?

I have both 3.5 and 2.5 external enclosures, and with the 3.5 I am getting at least 5MB/s slower results on all of my speed measurements with HDtach. The thing is, the 3.5 hdd is rated as much faster than the hdd in the 2.5 enclosure. I know the enclosure's controller/chipset matters too...

Thanks for your help MiSfit. Unlike some people in other forums I won't mention, you don't sound like you're selling hardware. I'll ltake a look at intel mobo's but the amd's I looked at were too expensive for the newer chipsets. If I invested $300 I would probably lean towards getting a...

agp vs. pci-e for video editing: big difference?

Hi MiSfit, Thank you so much for your prompt and courteous reply. It's tough trying to sift through all the info on vid cards on the net, especially when most of it is directed towards gaming. Yes I meant pci-e.:P First off, re: my psu: cooler master rs-430PMSR/P...

agp vs. pci-e for video editing: big difference?

Hello all, The power supply I got a few years back doesn't have connection for pci-e cards. I want to get a new card solely for video editing. Can I get similar results with a decent (not high end) agp card compared to a decent pci-x card, or should I go ahead and upgrade my power supply too...
