Prototype Macbook Pro with 3G: In my shop now!

Apparently this was the wrong place to post this hardware goodness, heh. Found out in additional inspection today that there was actually a pull-out cellphone antenna in the display housing, held on with magnets.

Prototype Macbook Pro with 3G: In my shop now!

Think I'll sell it, actually. Can't bring myself to keep anything with an 8600m GT GPU :(

Prototype Macbook Pro with 3G: In my shop now!

According to the guy I got it from: "Sorry! The Cell phone interface was never tested, I did not see working either while working with Apple and I did not receive any Module either which can be installed at J1300. For you info it has cell Antenna also on right Edge of the Display edge."...

Prototype Macbook Pro with 3G: In my shop now!

Leopard is running. Big surprise, nothing happens when I insert a SIM card and it doesn't see any hardware different than normal. Perhaps a special OS version or driver is required, or a protype Airport card, or some such. Any ideas guys?

Prototype Macbook Pro with 3G: In my shop now!

Leopard installing now. The install DVD doesn't see any hardware out of the normal, perhaps there will be something once its installed. I'll also see if inserting a SIM card makes anything happen, heh. The chances are pretty slim, but damn it'd be awesome to have the only Macbook Pro with...

Prototype Macbook Pro with 3G: In my shop now!

Haha, I didn't expect this thread to turn into an argument over tethering fees. At any rate, it looks like the machine is now functional after reflowing the nVidia GPU chip. Had to remove all the hand soldered vias first before putting it in the reflow oven, then resolder them back...

Prototype Macbook Pro with 3G: In my shop now!

So I work as a repair technician, and frequently run a "Wanted: Broken Apple Laptops" ad on my local Craigslist. Today I got in one of the oddest things I've ever seen . . . . what appears to be an unreleased prototype version of the 2007 15" Macbook Pro Santa Rosa. Upon initial inspection...

Windows 7 Install Issue, Loops after "Starting Services"

I tried disconnecting the OCZ drive completely and installing on one of the 2TB drives and got the same message, so it isn't drive firmware. My motherboard is on the Windows 7 compatibility list as working out of the box, plus is running the latest BIOS already. Right now I'm trying the...

Windows 7 Install Issue, Loops after "Starting Services"

And install the drivers when I first start installing 7? I could try that I suppose. Also it won't go into safe mode, if I try it says "Windows Install cannot complete in safe mode, please restart". I tried putting back in my old HD with XP on it, and the machine booted fine and even allowed...

Windows 7 Install Issue, Loops after "Starting Services"

Nope, it had MORE hard drives in it before (5x total) that I'm replacing with these three that are larger and faster. Since the original post I've tried installing 7 on one of the 2TB drives instead of the SSD, and removing all but 1 stick of ram. Still no luck.

Windows 7 Install Issue, Loops after "Starting Services"

I just made a few upgrades to my computer. New hard drives (one 60GB OCZ SSD and two 2TB Seagates) and new monitors (3x AOC 21.5" 1920x1080). I decided I'd go ahead and finally upgrade my main desktop to Windows 7 while I was at it. Something, however, is horribly wrong. It will go through...

Two installs of XP on the same system, need NO interaction between the two?

Oh, its possible. How I'm not sure but she finds ways, probably by messing with every menu possible or visiting websites with nasty malware (which will take advantages of security holes/etc even on a limited account). I'm there every few weeks.

Two installs of XP on the same system, need NO interaction between the two?

Okay, so I'm trying to set this up and after about 6 hours of work everything is crashing. I'm at my wits end. Hopefully someone has a suggestion on a better way to set things up. The problem: I'm trying to set up a new computer for my parents. The issue is my younger sister (14) who...

    Mac notebook warranty.

I've heard similar issues before. Do not take it to an "Apple Dealer" that has a contract, because results and quality of the work will vary far too much. Don't take it to an Apple Store unless you've been there before and have been happy with the service . . . . I hate to say it, but the...

    HD Failure in MacBook Pro?

You have AppleCare, so you might as well get what you paid for! I'd take it in person to a Genius Bar and let them run all the tests for you, if it is the HD they'll usually have parts like that already in the store and swap it while you wait.
