Looking at a Computer Shopper from Jan 1995... hehe

Hmmm... although it's a long ago, and I'm not 100% sure, I think that you may not be correct. (btw, this isn't a flame!). I do remember adverts for 8/12 and 12/16MHz PC's, with the higher speed refered to as Turbo. However, I could well be wrong (or have wholly misunderstood the turbo button...

Cor, the Turbo button that increased clock speed by 4Mhz. 12Mhz from an 8Mhz box, 16 from a 12Mhz box. Lovely idea. I had a PS/2 at work, and they didn't have turbo buttons :-( We used to use DrawPerfect for diagrams in WordPerfect documents. and it ran sooo slowly on a 286. Xtree was a dream...

    Hardrives, the bigger the better?

Not a lot. I've been die-hard SCSI since the very early 90's. Back in the days of IDE and PIO, there used to be a hell of a performance advantage to SCSI. For example, my P133 and PPro200 rigs were built using IDE, then went to SCSI (Adaptec 2940UW and 9gb UW drives), between 1996-98. The...

I have a copy of PCW from August 1985 at home, (review of the Amiga 1000 - wowowow did I want one), there was also reviews of the Compaq Deskpro 286 and Kaypro 286, iirc proces were around £4000 for a 286-8Mhz (might have been 12Mhz...) with 512Kb memory. Thats motherboard RAM, not CPU cache ;-)...

Hi guys Looking for some buying advice/opinion, as I upgrade (hah, rebuild!) my AMD rig. Am looking at an nforce platform, and (eventually) 400MHz FSB Athlon. But, don;t want to buy if there is something better just around the corner. So... 1. Is there a new nforce chipset due soon? Have...
