    So my DVI - D cable I used to connect to analog monitor DVI-A worked. Same cable with new 8800gts DVI-A out - DIDN'T work with new digital monitor. New DVI - D cable works. ALmost as if the cable has a memory. I have no clue, but it's working. This is closed. Thanks.

    Sorry - those crashes were regular before the final death? Maybe BIOS wrong all along? Definately a relationship between your crashes and the HDD death I would think...and it's prolly not dead, just not recognized. I hope BIOS is the fix for you.
