Also I want to add, is there any performance benefit from running the memory at 1:1 with the CPU? Coming from AMD and Socket939, running in "dual channel" mode was important. Is this the case with Core2?
Great thread.
I just want to make sure I'm on the right track.
I just installed a new ABIT IP35-E along with 2GB G-skill DDR400, and E2160.
All I have done so far is:
1. Set C1E to "disabled"
2. Set CPU ratio to 333x9 (3Ghz)
3. Set CPU Voltage to 1.425
4. Set Memory divider to...
You are right I thought about Quad Core. But the fact that I'll also be doubling my RAM in addition to getting a C2D I figured I'll go ahead and see what this improvement gives me first.
I went ahead and bit just now. Can't fight the upgrade bug :).
I figure if I need more speed down...
My Opty is a 165 Dual core, About an identical processor to your X2 4200+.
Hmm I'm starting to have 2nd thoughts based on what you said. I don't even game much, mostly thinking of upgrading because I multitask quite a bit.
Thanks. Would a 400W PSU be adequate for this setup with a 8800 GTS or 8800GT?
Also, would this be a worthwhile upgrade from a S939 system (Opteron @ 2ghz) ?
Basically I'm looking to replace my 7900GTS. I am fine with the performance but it's a dual slot card.
I'm trying to do an even swap after selling my 7900GTS but right now there seems to be a huge gap in graphics cards. There are 8800s ($300+) and 8600s ($100). Is there anything out there...
Is one noticeably better than the other. Obviously I'd like to get the USB card for it's mobility/ easy installation/ plug and play etc. But will the USB network adapter take a hit in speed or reliability?
For reference I'm looking into the following...
There's your problem, it is impossible to get an HD signal from an S-Video cable. No matter what the source, even if it's 1080p, it will end up being 480i (SD) by the time it goes through that S-Video cable.
You must hook it up with either Component or HDMI.
